Dave if we got both, well, it would be the best Summers business I can ever remember to be honest, that would be 5 players to genuinely get excited about. Bloody exciting few weeks hopefully :-)

If we get Carzorlha and either M'Vila or Sahin, suddenly we become a club where other players want to be, and could even strike a bit of jealousy to Nasri and Cesc.

Who gives a flying fuck what Nasri or Cesc think? History should stay just that...

Re: The Van Persie Thread
As far as i am concerned this is the best summer business we have done....
With these players coming in everybody will benifit from it,the ability is there for us to peg back teams with the firepower new midfield look will give us new dynamics and in turn let our defence concentrate on one thing....defending,
If we can add sahin too then we have a bench when everybody is fit of envy...
A non reliance on just an out and out first team that will grind itself into the ground by playing every week...and maybe just maybe if we can get players like diaby, arshavin performing like they could we can push for anything this coming season....
I will say one thing cesc also asked about bringing in more players and nothing materialised
Imagine what he is thinking now lol....

Again who cares? He is where he wants to be, he is nothing to the Arsenal of today and I dont see th point in talking about what he is thinking, I wonder what Ray Parlour is thinking, because he is a fucking legend, unlike Cesc! lol
Sahin would make our midfield looked packed, one of him or M'Villa would really excite me if Cazorla is confirmed as well, my brain says it should be M'Vila but my heart says Sahin is some fucking player, really sexy midfielder, so that would be good as well.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
I love how we're signing/maybe signing some excellent attacking players, Cazorla is a very exciting player and someone we desperately need, but it was our defence that was the problem last season and what must be worked on, either with a new signing or two (obvious one is M'Vila but I don't see that coming off this summer) and lots of work on the training ground.
Unfortunately in all our pre-season matches so far we haven't even come close to fielding a full strength defence, and 3 of the key players didn't even travel to Asia, so that is a concern going into the new season. Steve Bould was a great defender and by all means sounds like a highly rated coach but he isn't Superman.

If Van Persie signs an extention it will be a huge turnaround, and we look so strong offensively then, could shipping lots and scoring lots too this season!

I think we would actually ship less because we are buying/maybe buying players who can retain possession which will automatically reduce the pressure on our back 5

Re: The Van Persie Thread
There was talk he would 'do a Rooney' a week ago but I don't know. We are stronger with him for sure but he said a few things that sounded like he wanted to force the move, rather than force the issue. Maybe a bit of both, maybe he recognises the mistake and that Juventus' manager is a match-fixing cheat and knowing we don't want to sell to the Mancs he's left stranded.
Yeah our ball retention last season was not what we've come to expect, but we were still shipping in plenty of goals the previous few seasons. As long as defence isn't treated seriously at the club and tracking back/closing down is seen as an option requirement we will keep conceding.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
Would be a massive turnaround if he signs obviously but I wonder what kind of bitterness and animosity he will face from the crowd at the Emirates. Will it affect his form? Will he get another season-ending injury in November?
Obviously AW is looking at squad-depth too. It's almost as if he's looked at the past few seasons and noticed that we've lacked depth more than anything.
One question I do have, even if it is off-topic, is what do all these signings mean for our system of young>>older + experienced players?

The squad looks alot more experienced now, just unfortunately not seasoned experienced in the Premier League, most with only 0,1 or 2 seasons here.

^^This
Brendan Rodgers has supposedly made Pool players get the ball back within 7 seconds of losing the ball. The whole team from front to back has to work together and we need to start doing the same, working hard when we dont have the ball

I know that, I just mean will we still see so much young talent being scouted out like it has been in the past at Arsenal...? What are people's thoughts on that.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
We will still scout young talent, every club must do that to survive and we're looking at the young Caen striker, but the 'youth project' is probably over. Which is a good thing. We need more experienced players. No coincidence that Arteta, without being spectacular, was one of our most reliable and consistent players last season. Definitely number 1 in that aspect in midfield.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
Arsene is buying people of the "right" age. 25-28 year olds will give you the needed consistency. Besides, we have a big bunch of 19-22 year olds in our team, so having a mix of both sets of players will be a good thing.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
It's no coincidence that the youth project started around the same time as our move to the new stadium. It was a necessity rather than one of Wenger's whims. I'm quite sure Wenger will try to go back to his glory days now that we've repaid most of the stadium debt.

1 - I made the point to show how far we potentially have come over the summer
2 - As much as people move on, you cannot pretend there is no bad blood or lingering rivalry over Cesc and Nasri's departures.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
I think its still feasible that RVP could stay, or even better, sign a new contract, and have the support of the fans. He would be forgiven in time....well, as soon as he starts winning games of his beautiful left boot.
Surely it's time for big Stan to ride in on a horse or something and convince RVP to stay?
Then it's a good news story for all.

It seems as though the rumors are getting stronger that he's going to Man U.

yes - i am shocked.
i could kind of accept that RVP may want to go elsewhere, but to man united??
ever the optimist, and accepting that anything can happen in football, it is nearly as feasible that we could win something this year as it is for United.
