Re: The Van Persie Thread
Not that I want to bring back horrible memories but this quote tonight from Wenger is really striking -
"But what is painful is to see United so far in front of us," he says. "We knew when we sold him to United that would be the case."

Horrible statement, just provides more evidence of the lack of ambition at the club

And if we knew, as surely most people knew, why not do anything about it with all the money we got/already have?

This money thing really bugs me....absolutely clearly we have big money available and yet season after season they just won't take these big punts....one has to come somewhere..

Re: The Van Persie Thread
That statement just proves that we no longer even pretend that we're capable of competing. We pretty much sold the title to United and now the club is actually admitting it to the world.
The club, or should I say 'company', is just a joke these days. Season after season of the same bullshit.

Re: The Van Persie Thread
Perhaps we're not clever enough with the money we have or the players we do buy can't make a big enough impact because the team is constrained within its annoying slow passing style.
In truth some of the signings like Chamakh and Gervinho are just unforgivable for a man who is supposed to be a legend.

100% spot on...been saying that for ages...why pay 20-30m for a couple of average players and not spend 20m on a cracking one..

That's the thing, one cracking player doesn't solve our problems! Let's say we get Llorente/Falcao or someone of that calibre, a striker... It doesn't solve the defensive naivity in our midfield. Buy a cracking DM, spend 20 million and he gets srocked after 5 games, or doesn't adapt. What do you do then as a manager? The fans will turn around and say well you're silly for buying that player.

Since the days of the undefeated we should have been replacing like for like every season....that's where probably by now we would still have VP,song, maybe cesc....but added quality rather than the shit we keep getting offered as a substitute...

At the end, did we have a choice but to sell Van Persie?

Yes, we had. To have kept him for 1 more season.
Wenger keeps insisting, that they have the money for exceptional players. Why not break the bank for keeping somebody like RVP? Was 24million that critical for the club, when they keep insisting that they are able to spend 30+Million for top quality players? That 24million profit will easily get wiped off, if we dont qualify for CL. If Wenger had the will, if the board listens to him, I am sure he could have kept RVP. Ferguson has the balls to make those big decisions, but Wenger chickens out.
Wenger proved that he lost his desire to win, to compete, by selling RVP to ManU. His only aim is to finish top 4 and make profits for the employer (kroenke c*nt).

Won't be finishing in the top 4 if we keep this up - certainly don't deserve to.
Don't worry, Kroenke won't mind as long as he is making a profit. Though it will become harder to sustain a profit with a "business" whose product isn't as good as it used to be and doesn't compare favourably with the competition either. From a business perspective, he will be selling off his share while he can still make a profit on the sale (of shares). I don't see him investing in the team or replacing Wenger either.
