very very poor

The guy just came back from a 4 month injury, give him a break. Not like we had better RB options, and I don't believe coq would have done much better.

so why not play with Coquelin?

OptaJean 5 – Zlatan
Ibrahimovic is the first player to
score in five consecutive CL
appearances since Marouane
Chamakh in Oct 2010. Ponytail.

Lol, chamakh... and scoring... ah those were the days.

I've come to realize Wenger never adjusta tactics to oppositions, never do we change playing style or formation based on who we play. Always the same tactics with players sometimes shifted around cause of rests or injuries.

You sir have a point. Who needs to be adaptable anyway...

I'd like to think so, maybe they'll get back to Blighty and forget it ever happened. Italian mirage.
This squad is different than last years, but what the CC final showed me was that this sort of shit form is infectious like fucking Ebola and can destroy the rest of your season. Hopefully not so this year?

Just saw him on SkySports, he was actually pretty frank and said defensively and attacking as a unit we were poor; and suffered same old problems being well beaten in challenges

I'm not sure that the Arsenal team of recent seasons has been able to just say 'never mind, we'll just concentrate on this competition now' and carry on like it's never happened. We lose a big game and get worse from there with our confidence and belief drained.

Although the difference this season is that rather than start well and then fade off we've had bad patches of form throughout the season. If we went on to falter now it wouldn't necessarily be a hangover from tonight's game, it will just be typical Arsenal in the 2011-12 season. I.e. not good enough. We'll see.

Well I hope he ducking realizes the problems we have now. Oh, wait, you could've said that for any if the past 3-6 years now already and still nothing is done to address problema clearly visable to every single football fan. Our defensive style needs looking at and we clearly need priper decent reinforcements in certain areas of the pitch especially creatively after fab and nasri left.

Jeez.

Yes, we were dreadful. Some poor performances from people who we really should be able to count on (Vermaelen and Sagna). But some of the reactionary comments I've seen on the net in the last hour are laughable. People were talking us up after two good results in the league recently, and all of a sudden one result shows how deficient we are in every single department, the death knell of Arsenal football club and a sign of our inexorable slide...

Milan are a very good side, and we took a hiding. Yes, tonight was unacceptable. But I don't understand how this symbolises the current state of our side any more than the 7-1 win against Blackburn does, or our excellent run of form from October to December. The world didn't end tonight. Sunderland next on Saturday afternoon.

Rant over, apologies.

We've been here before. We were consistently shocking for much of 2005/06, and still managed to concentrate on one competition (ironically, the Champions League).

Sorry to say, but we will lose the FA cup. Year after year when we get knocked out of a competition, we just completely fall apart. It wasnt too bad to fall apart in previous seasons coz we were so far ahead of the chasing pack, but this year...could be the worst yet. Pessimistic, but also realistic and a reflection on past seasons. I wont watch another live game this season, every one I have, they've lost. I'll continue to support, but I just can't bare or be arsed to watch another defeat.

As Dan Hakim already said, it's not the loss (or even the CL exit), it's the manner of the loss. There was some bad luck and worse luck tonight (offside, TV's slip, injury to Kos), but it really didn't look like anyone wanted to be out there. Ill prepared, full of fear and without intensity.

Worse than just being shit....we were poorly prepared in terms of tactics, in terms of mentality and attitude, along with a failure to adjust, tactically, in attitude, even in boots - i didn't see many Milan looking like they were playing on a slip n slide.

Sure we have been just lacking this season in overall quality, only RVP displayed any real class. But tonight was not about quality, it was about performance and preparation.

When was the last time our GK made a string of key saves (like Abbiati did)? He must have one of the lowest save % stats amongst PL keepers.
Can't have shot of Theo fast enough, honestly.

Sure hope that Kos is OK! If that's a serious injury, we are in a tight spot. Fear and trembling with Spurs upcoming. Arsenal, teetering on the edge - the performance against Sunderland will tell us everything about the rest of this season.

True, and that league campaign was pretty bad. Although hard to compare sides 6 years apart. That was an almost entirely different team to what we have now with nowhere near the same experience or even quality. We're not suddenly a useless, mid-table side and we are going to be competing for 4th spot right until the death (don't think we will get it, though) but our squad is being stretched again and with players going backwards as the season has gone on, it's hard to get too optimistic.

I honestly thought about a month ago that Spurs would start to unravel, Chelsea would sort their mess out and we would pip Spurs for 4th. Looks like our only hope of a CL position is AVB's continued incompetence and his staying in a job.

So I had gone into communications black out for the game, not wanting to know the score. I had DVR'd it at home and was just going to come home, make some dinner, and sit down with a beer and watch the game just as if I was watching it live.

15 minutes in they scored. I didn't even hesitate to grab my phone and check the score after that. Why? Because after 15 minutes we were so poor with our passing, lacking any type of drive, and just going through the motions that I knew it was not going to be worth it to watch the rest of the game.

First thing I see is 4-0 Milan and I wasn't even surprised.

I don't think the term "shower of shit" could ever be used more appropriately, and that was only after 15 minutes of viewing.
