Re: Summer transfer window 2013
Some of things even may have been true. Club and/or player thought the deal was proceeding. No one knew any better. But things can change. Anything can happen, like Panjic to Arsenal:
"There were multiple offers come in and I was on my way to Arsenal. I had agreed to all the conditions set for me. But my father had already given his word Roma, so I finally went here. "

Maybe we have bagged them but are slower to announce? Or worse, we throw in low ball offers and it delays things, then we miss out.
What happened to all the Felliaini chatter?

One day they're saying we met the release clause, the next day we haven't even submitted a bid...hopefully things will swing in our favor soon.Jonathan Prendergast wrote:Maybe we have bagged them but are slower to announce? The only thing I can come to think of is we should be at least telling people we are actively chasing players.....this window is really starting to warm up and we need to be sending out the right messages to the masses and the rest of the league...

I think such messages only push the price up of the players we are trying to buy. They don't really do anything for our benefit, apart from placate us fans, which is irrelevant in the long term, as the fans really want quality players, not chatter.

Re: Summer transfer window 2013
I would have agreed with that a few years ago when it was obvious we did not have the spending power we do today.....this year has to be a game changer for us and sending out the messages one way or another we will buy the players we want...
Although clearing out the players seams to be going well so far...this is the first agenda and its moving along nicely......just hope we don't get caught out by missing important players coming in....

Re: Summer transfer window 2013
Michael has a point. If we were to sign Higuain, he would have every right to consider if we are going to surround him with top-class talent or he will be the only superstar signing with a couple of average others. If we show intent, more top-class players would be interested in joining us.

Re: Summer transfer window 2013
Gotta agree with Jon. I am not a fan of saying publicly who we are after before anything has been agreed. It lets clubs know we want their players so the demand is there and lets other clubs know our targets. I understand the fans may want it but still.
I am sure Higuain has spoken to club officials and maybe even Wenger himself in he negotiation process and that a 'plan' so to speak has been laid out to him. Maybe even other players we are after. He had Juventus after him, who won their league last year and would probably pay him more wages, but he chose us. He would have been convinced by us somehow.

Agree Mike. Higuain, for example, would be more influenced by the plans he hears straight from the Arsenal coach's/representative's mouth than what he reads in the press.

Re: Summer transfer window 2013
So Higuain has given us his word that he'll be joining. However, there still appears to still be some holdup from his end. Also, we're set to submit a bid of 25 million (forgot if it's pounds or euros) for Rooney.

Re: Summer transfer window 2013
Sky Sports understands Sunderland are closing in on the signing of Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone.
Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio has lined up a move for his fellow Italian as he looks for a replacement for Simon Mignolet following his departure to Liverpool.
Mannone is well down the pecking order at Arsenal and since arriving from Atalanta in 2005 he has made just 15 appearances at the club.
The 25-year-old has has spells out on loan at Barnsley and Hull City twice during his time with the Gunners and he impressed during his time at the KC Stadium.
Sunderland are now ready to offer Mannone a permanent move away from Arsenal with talks at an advanced stage between both Premier League clubs.
Mannone is expected to hold talks with the Wearside club next week as Di Canio looks to lure him to the Stadium of Light.

I've read a few articles about this over last couple days. Supposedly a fee of around 2.5-3 million.

Re: Summer transfer window 2013
Just heard that Higuain is in fact our 3rd choice for striker this summer, and we're now going for Rooney since the Higuain deal is agreed. If this is true, holy fucking shit, what is Arsene planning?

No, I believe everything anyone says all the time. If that didn't seem like bullshit to me, then the rumor stating we've put Higuain on the back burner to pursue Torres definitely does. I'm not giving any sort of concrete inside information, just repeating the gossip (I repeat, GOSSIP) I've been hearing. I'll say when I actually think something is true.

Coquelin on his way out. We have already bid 23m for Bender. We are doing well with selling all the deadwood, I think it's a matter of time until we see quality signings.
