Our downfall would be our more experienced players leaving and us not spending to make for their loss.

Who wants to join us now (not sure to play CL next season) when he can go to Barca, Real, City, Utd, Bayern, PSG, Milan, Inter..., too?

If we signs then no name players.

Joachim Löw as next Arsenal manger, please!

I am having nightmares about Robin playing for Barcelona next season. Barca don't even have a proper striker at the moment !!! With RVP having just 1 year on his contract there will be a flood of offers if he doesn't sign a new contract asap. We are going to get shafted in the summer Rolling Eyes again.

If RVP signs a new contract then I will have a some false hope to cling onto Sad

RVP won't sign a new contract if we don't make it to the CL spots, and even if we do yet fail to challenge in the cup or the CL, I have serious doubts.
A player his level deserves a competing club. If we will remain one, he might sign. If we will stop being a competing club, he probably will not stay. There is a reason he is delaying his signing, it's not to get more money - it's to see where the club is heading to. (My opinion of course)

Agree with 50 percent of that. He does deserve a competing club

I really don't think we have anything to worry about with him leaving though

Because you believe he will sign, or because you believe we will make do if he makes like a tree?

The other 50 percent I meant was that I disagreed we are currently a competing club :-p

I don't know, just the way he conducts himself, the way he talks about the club… there was always an inevitability with Cesc. Henry we knew. Vieira we knew. I just get the feeling van Persie wants to stay here forever, barring one season at his hometown club or something.

Due to our profit on sales of £73M last summer, we can spend £100M on players and still be within UEFA’s rules. - ArsenalPortal

hazard: with all the respect to chelsea.. i would prefer joining a club with history such as arsenal or liverpool.

This is all over twitter ( not saying it is reliable) and also on twitter they are saying that he was spotted at the emirates at the game vs manu.

@Ralph: don't believe any of that shit. Hazard will join the club that will do best for his career. Twitter is a beast with a million lying tongues. Don't believe that shit, for your own sanity.

Apparently Gervinho gave Hazard tickets to the Utd game. I think they are still on winter break so it's plausible he was at the game

Its clear we have a lot of money in the kitty. However our wage structure seriously needs to be looked at. We will not be able to compete for the top players like Hazard or Gotze without being able to pay them over or close to £100,000k a week.

The RVP situation is dangerously replicating the Nasri plot. If he does not sign a contract by the summer, he will have to be sold or we could be potentially losing out on £30m. The way the Nasri transfer unfolded I wouldn't be surprised if we sold RVP in the summer.

I do understand its very unlikely and that RVP seems to have his heart with us, however I think this situation will become very similar if RVP has only one year left on his contract during the summer transfer window.

If he was to leave, I'd rather we let RVP run down his contract than sell him. Two years of RVP are far more useful to us than one year and £30m. There's no player out there who could adequately replace him.

Oh definitely, I think any fan would say the same thing. However I think the business objectives of the club outweigh the emotional attachment.

If we do not achieve CL qualification, would we have to offset the sale of RVP for £30m with that of the potential loss of £30m of CL revenue. It's a dilemma.

I honestly think we need to spank out on a big player before this window closes, one to help us boost our CL qualification purposes and also show RVP that we have the ambition to attain the best players to give a shot at the title next year. We've all seen the benefits of a superstar signing in the January transfer window (albeit Arsharvin not being the same player we hoped for long-term)

Very true on current form Alex.

However in recent years I think that AW has failed to keep players who are looking for the exit performing to anywhere near the standard we would like. I'm looking at AA - Nasri (denilson I dunno he may always have been a dud).
I hope that the seeming abandonment of the crazy and hair brained 30yr old 1yr contract extension program. Will go a long way in resolving such dips in form.

Tomáš Rosický's agent confirms he's in London for talks with Arsenal, but denies it's transfer related.
New contract, perhaps?

We've paid people more than £100k over the last six years, even ignoring inflation.

Been having a look around the tabloids and net this morning..and the closer it gets the more likely it is we will not be signing anybody in the window...

I don't think we will; certainly not anyone big. I don't think we can expect any major signings until the disquiet at board level is resolved.
