I for the love cannot understand why the board does not want a top up of funds from our Russian share owner (never spell his name right lol) he has offered in the past and it would not dent nor interrupt any financial dealings within the club..

Re: January Transfers
I don't think he has actually offered that. There is nothing to stop him using his personal funds as it is.
Re: January Transfers
I think it was his first sesaon with us when I think he thought he might have a chance of gaining the over 50% shares..I will have a look see if I can find it...

Re: January Transfers
I'm not sure I buy this 'no players are available' thing anymore. In the LB/RB department maybe, but we're not fundamentally weak there anyway (just unlucky). We need another body up top. And yet in this transfer window we've seen that Cisse fella go to Newcastle (to be fair I have no idea if he's any good, but surely he'd be better than Park - his stats seem to suggest so), there's been much talk of Moussa Sow to Turkey (I don't know how well he's doing this year, but he was excellent last year), and Shaqiri to Turkey as well (again, gambling on potential, but he seems an interesting player).
Now normally I would say we shouldn't settle for less than the best, but when the stakes are as high as they are, bringing in a player that can paper over the cracks must be a priority, right? We can worry about next season over the summer - I fully expect another clearout. I fully expect us to lose Park (send him out on loan to a club that will actually play him), Chamakh, Squillaci, Arshavin, and maybe more. We'll have slots for new players, except our targets won't want to join us because we won't be in the CL. So why not spend money on a player who can at least paper over the cracks, and then worry about it in the summer?
Having said that, it's likely that none of those players I just mentioned are good enough, and Wenger knows it (in my defence, Wenger didn't know it when he signed Park).

Re: January Transfers
Wenger commented on Hazard.
"When he is available for transfer, we will see if there is the possibility to sign him."
"Hazard is a player I have followed for some time, but I do not want to unsettle Lille now."

Sorry. It is from Jan 2011. For fucks sake.. had a hard on for no reason.

I would be happy if we replaced Arshavin with Shaqiri, a very exciting prospect plus he's got a deadly left foot.
Re: January Transfers
Sign Shaqiri now, give him 6 months to adapt with sporadic appearances, sell Arshavin in the summer for some 6m or whatever, net loss is very little.
I don't know if he's good enough though, having only seem him play a few times. Plus, he looks fat. Him and Arshavin will fight over the pies.

So a player has to be courted by the likes of City and Madrid for him to be good?

Every morning I log in and hope there is some gossip here about who we're about to sign, something tangible, and I just see you lot bickering. Stop getting my hopes up!

Re: January Transfers
Bayern Munich are going to announce a 'spectacular' signing in a few minutes. The media have no idea who it is, haha.
My money's on Walcott.

Re: January Transfers
I just heard that the Bayren news is a load of bollocks. Apparently it's to get every one buzzed up before they announce their new iPhone App is available from the App Store. I hate marketing people..
But I don't know if that is true either. Guess we'll find out in half an hour..

Triple swoop for Arshavin, Almunia and Squillacci would be nice

I LOL'd so hard at that I fell off my chair. If Arsenal ever played such a trick on us, they'd have a lot of hate mail to deal with.

Erm, yeah, as a general rule of thumb, if a well known player moves somewhere B-grade for not a lot of money it is because big clubs have had a look and decided 'no', for whatever reason.
I'm not saying he'll never be good or anything.
And maybe he is amazing now. Maybe he's had offers from Milan, London, Valencia and Munich and he's decided to go to Turkey for the love of kebab. I doubt it though.

Chris is more or less right, Shaqiri isn't a complete unknown, he's been on the scene for a little while now. If none of the big clubs are at all interested (the Man Utd rumors are likely just because he did quite well against them), there is probably a reason why. But who knows.
