Yes and yes.

Vermaelen is not a very good defender. Santos was not a very good signing. Poor professional and not very good at the basics. Gibbs has been a big miss.

Every win at Old Trafford under Wenger has been achieved with a clean sheet. You have to be able to hold firm first. We can't with a joke line-up at the back.

It's just the way things always go. Before the season started we'd all have said that CB is easily the position in which we have great depth and few problems. So, typically, all of them bar Mertesacker start playing as if they've forgotten that they're defenders.

Well Wenger could certainly have played Vermaelen at LB and put Koscielny back in, but he's hardly in great form either. Anything is better than Santos.

As for the captaincy, it's all down to Wenger to take responsibility.
