10m is typical arsenal, very sensible considering his contract but invites one of the big guns to gazump us with a bid double that size. cologne won't take 10m whatever the situation. we have a jump on the competition, we need this to happen

Agree completely, as ive said before if you look at the squad in departments, if we end up spending 12-14 million on Podolski coming in we then have potential fees to claw back with the sales of Chamakh, Park, Vela and Bentdner...assuming none of them are out of contract id like to think combined they are worth a similar value to what we are paying, Wenger is an economist, he should love the idea.

I read somewhere we can sign Podolski for 6 million if Koln get relegated.

Are they in danger of getting relegated?

Is it legal to agree terms with the player and club before the transfer window is open? If so, we need to do this now and not risk another club coming in and outbidding us.

Podolski can be the perfect signing. The more i look at the team, the more i think we need backup in attack.

In defence, Koscielny, Verminator and even Per have been good, we've conceded a lot, at the start, but yes, you don't get acquainted to your partner in def overnight, and we've been quite unlucky on many occasions. I'm also waiting for the return of Kyle Bartley. In midfield, Arteta, Song, Rosicky (sooo good to see the old monster back), Ramsey, Wilshere, the OX, Diaby (on occasions) seems quite interesting. I bet AW will give Lansbury a try, i think he deserves it. To that add the wing players, Theo, Gerv, and hopefully Ryo Miyaishi. The only missing link is in attack IMO, RVP is God, but if God gets injured, or can't find a way through, surely Chamakh will not. What about Park? I can't see why he's there? What's his value?

That said, Podolski is the perfect man, experienced, knows how to score goals, also strong in the air. Perfect Fit !

I guess maybe a better question is it normal for this to happen? I feel like its in Koln's best interest to not have it done quickly as they get other interest and raise his price.

The deal can be agreed beforehand, but it cannot be ratified as an official transfer while the window is shut. If the deal is done already, all that needs to be done is fax the relevant documents to the German and English FAs once the window opens.
I think this sort of thing is done more frequently than we are aware of, because the media will report it as 'reportedly moving for' or 'reportedly agreed a deal', and will only confirm it when the player shows up for a medical at the training ground or the papers are faxed to the FA

€13m is pretty good price I think for a player of that calibre. few more additions and we're laughing

Price sounds a little low, and wages seem very high, but I'll be happy if its a done deal. Now sign Hazard, and our squad is complete. We have wingers, we have a backup to RVP, we have a midfield, and we have defenders. With those 2 players, and with the emergence of Ox as a player to be reckoned with either on the wings or in midfield, the squad is strong.

If we've got Podolski, I reckon we need someone more like Goetze than Hazard, some creativity in the middle of the park. Of course we might pin our hopes on The Ox playing that role but that will be for Wenger to decide

The BBC are reporting it now, looks like this deal could be done really soon.

I agree, Goetze would suit our needs more than Hazard. Go German Arsene.
If we don't get Hazard though I really hope he doesn't move to another English club and goes to Spain. I'd hate to see him in a Chelsea or Utd shirt.

This is great news.We are doing business early that's a good sign as well.
Now we need to make sure that Lukasz is there to back up Robin not to replace him.

Looks like its done! If we keep rvp, which im sure we will, 2012/13 could be our strongest team since 2005 and finally a serious chance to get some silver/gold. We still got a few more transfers to complete the squad, some impact squad players and to get rid of the deadwood - Diaby, Denilson, Bendtner, Park, Chamakh, Arshavin, vela, squidlacci, ammonia....shit, thats quite a lot! Maybe we still have a lot of work to do.
