Re: Podolski...again...
All my friends in Germany say this time it is legit. He isn't signing a new contract with Koln and Arsene Wenger is very respected in Deutschland. I can't help but get the feeling, we need him NOW as opposed to in the summer but I'll take whatever I can get.
Re: Podolski...again...
It has the hallmarks of the Chamakh/Gervinho signings, doesn't it? One of those ones where everyone seems to agree that it's going to happen at some point. This encourages me. I think it'll happen.
Re: Podolski...again...
This would be a beast of a signing as far as I am concerned...he is exactly what we need...
Make it so Wenger...

For me, its really important that firstly, if this happens...we then dont sit out the rest of the summer without further substantial signings.
Podolski-Van Persie-Walcott
Aint half bad is it.

Not really a risk. If it doesn't work, just change it back.
RVP played that role towards the end of last season, and kept scoring..He becomes even harder to mark and gets more space. A lot of his goals are from the top of the box or making late runs. It would work well IMO.

Re: Podolski...again...
Jens Lehmann just tweeted this - Glad to hear that Lukasz Podolski has agreet to join #arsenal next season.
I think its safe to say Podolski will be an Arsenal player next season now.

Big Jens could be onto something. Wenger tried to play down the Podolski stories when SKY tried to grill him about it.

That would mean a change of formation then. Interesting...

Podolski hasn't played on the wings for a long time so Wenger might have some wholesale changes in mind if we're actually in for him.

Re: Podolski...again...
Hoping they really have agreed a fee. Coz come the Euros, if he performs like he has been with cologne, his stocks would shoot up and every top team will be hunting him with bigger bids. Dont know what formation we would play with him tho. Back to conventional 442? If thats the case, walcott will never get the chance to move into the middle.

Re: Podolski...again...
I like the idea of reverting back to a 4-4-2 I believe that the current formation when works does well but also believe oppisition normally know how to stop us as we have been playing this way for some time...
If Wenger is to make this happen he needs to get in there now...as you said if he has a good euros a lot of teams will be taking notice..not that prob are not now...

Re: Podolski...again...
4-4-2 wont work in Europe, simple as that.
No doubt the Euros are playing a huge part of why we are trying to do business now. Like how we signed Rosicky before the WC

Re: Podolski...again...
If its not a change to 2 centrally placed forwards then Podolski would simply have to play wide left, I think its irrelevant that he hasnt played wide for a long time, we often buy players and shoe horn them into our formation, Rosicky, Reyes, Hleb, Walcott to name a few all played varyingly different positions for their previous clubs.

Re: Podolski...again...
It's just about the fee. He got a contract until summer 2013 and Cologne wants 20mil+
He started his career as a striker (WC 2006 next to Klose). Then he moved to the left wing. So he can play both positions which is very good. He can replace RvP and/or Gervinho.
And finally someone who can shoot properly.

more importantly he can find the back of the net. didnt realise his contract runs out so soon! hopefully we can talk them into 15m plus performance based incentives

Re: Podolski...again...
There is no way we will move back to 442 as a starting formation on a regular basis. Very, very unlikely and doesn't suit half of our players.
Re: Podolski...again...
Though it wouldn't surprise me to see us go 442 if we aren't winning on 60 mins, say. But the reason that wouldn't surprise me is because Wenger does it quite often at the moment anyway.
Re: Podolski...again...
Arsenal made a starting bid of 10million euros and obviously Cologne is holding out for more.
I think we'll get him for 12-13m (unless Chelsea, spurs or some other pisser take part in bidding war)

At the moment I don't think any other English club are rumoured to be in for him, we need to get it wrapped it quickly this one, I think his addition would complete our front line, with the obvious transfers out in the Summer, and we can concentrate elsewhere then.
