I don't think the 'dead wood' are holding us back in winning trophies. We aren't even paying the wages of most of those players!

That BBC article wasn't really saying anything definitive. Let's just stay calm and not get our hopes up. How often are we on the verge of signing someone and it not happening? Let's try to learn from history here.

That BBC article was just reporting on the twitter blow up, which in turn is all based on the article in sport-bild

And that Per said that he texted Podolski about the club. That's about it. Let's not all shoot our collective wad.

Can't help but get a little excited, this is the best transfer 'news' we've had in a while

I get that. I can appreciate the excitement and anticipation, but we've been burned before, many MANY times. I'm hoping that Podolski signs on the first day that the transfer market is open, and RVP extends his contract the next day. I'm expecting nothing to happen, then two months after market closes hearing Wenger say "We tried hard to sign Podolski, but we wanted him at the right price."

It's a part of life, really. It's a part from which I'm trying to separate myself and be aware of its possibility.

Just because they are out on loan does not mean we arent contributing some if not all of the players wages.

The wages rumoured are big granted, and I would think Van Persie is going to get a hefty pay rise but when you think of the amount of players leaving this summer, and I think there will be alot, this should go someway to balance the books when you think realistically we could wave goodbye to...

Almunia, Fabianski, Mannone, Squillaci, Benayoun, Arshavin, Denilson, Park, Chamakh, Bentdner, Vela, Lansbury, Eastmond, Henderson, Hoyte, Botelho, Watt, Murphy.

Now I realise the younger ones are probably not on alot but it all adds up, and I would suggest that players like Squillaci and Arshavin earn a very good wage being bought as established internationals. Thats 18 players there off the top of my head, wow mass exodus!

Raphael Honigstein also reporting that Podolski deal is done. He also had this to say, " Podolski fee (only) GBP 10.3m but wages 140k a week."

Usually very accurate about his reports regarding German players, so I think we can safely conclude its been done.

Thats such an obvious and easy headline from this, negativity not needed.

"We are interested in good players," Mancini said. "I think all the good teams are interested in Van Persie.
"He is a fantastic striker but I think he will remain with Arsenal."

Agree with that, the tabloids are completely useless if your looking for reliable football news. Mancini can suck my balls RVP will not play for another Premiership club, im sure of it.

I think this will happen, I'm sure it isn't a done deal as is being reported but hopefully it will be done quickly once summer hits and we can get the real transfer business done. ie: Van Persie

Soccernet has it on their front Page that they are very close. Wages aside, podolski at 13 mil is a steal! Surely this news also encourages rvp to stay even more especially when coupled with the pay raise he will get.

140k a week for Podolski, I'm sorry but that is far too much. Even 100k a week is quite a lot, frankly. For he, he's worth 80k-ish. He's a fine player, but I don't know if he's THAT fine.
