What would Kalou actually bring to our team that we don't already have...

Re: January Transfers
Wenger is a long-term admirer. We know that. And the ACoN thing is a bit of a red herring because we have Henry until that ends. And yes, his scoring record is ok (though he's largely been used against weaker opposition in a strong Chelsea side). But he won't improve our team. And that's all that really matters.
Re: January Transfers
Id rather give The Ox and Park a real shot instead of signing Kalou. It is a complete nothing signing, not terrible but as flanagan says does not appear to help push the team forward

Re: January Transfers
This Park situation is really beginning to annoy me. I keep dwelling on that finish in the Carling Cup earlier in the season and hoping he still may be a more able deputy to RVP then Chamakh, but the limited amount of opportunities for him is clearly indicating Wenger thinks otherwise.

I had lunch with Mario Cognigni yesterday and he didn't mention it.

Re: January Transfers
Some news on our left-back situation.
My source in Oman says that Sa'ad Suhail Al-Mukhaini is flying out tonight to begin his 2 day trial with Arsenal.
Also, Spurs cannot sign Ganso. The kid is too good to go to Spurs, we ought to snap him up!

The 25 member rule is going to make it difficult for us to get in a new player and register him. We need to clear out a few players before we see new faces me thinks.

Re: January Transfers
Jenson: absolutely. I think the names that will/should leave are fairly clear: Denilson, Bendtner, Almunia, Squillaci, Park, Chamakh, Benayoun, Rosicky. The latter two you could argue should stay, but of the candidates in teh team, shedding some or all of those would give us a lot of room to work with.
Also, Ravel Morrison? Man Utd fans cannot speak too highly of him, and yet he may go almost for free. Worth a punt?

Re: January Transfers
Zaid, there's a reason they may let him go. He can barely be bothered to wake up and go to training, he has severe attitude problems, couple of charges of witness intimidation, assaulting his girlfriend.
His talent is right up there, United fans and those who follow youth football, feel he's one of the best natural talents to appear in recent years, since Scholes in regards to the United set up, yet he shows no respect to Fergie and Manchester United of all people/clubs?

Re: January Transfers
We really do need to strengthen the squad and spend that chunk of change we have sitting in the bank. I don't think we will, but there is still so much crap that needs replacing, and not by players of Kalou's standard. Slightly worrying.

Yep, not an Arsenal source but an Omani source. He's worked very closely with the Omani national team and the Omani FA.

Does your source indicate how good he is? Could very well see Wenger just stick with him if he proves himself.

Kids these days, I tell you. Maybe a change of scenery would help? Or he may be a disruptive influence.

Re: January Transfers
Mentioned this in the FA Cup thread, but does anyone think it would be worth trying to put a bid in for Adam Johnson. He looks like a class act in my opinion, but has only started 6 games for City since October (of which I think only 3 were in the PL). What's more, he was quoted over Christmas as being frustrated with the rotation system and said he was worried it might cost him his place at the Euros.
I'd take him in a second if the price/wages weren't extortionate.

When I asked about how good he is, my friend said that he was young and promising. But it seems like he's 24, so not that young. Honestly I can't see this happening. Personally I didn't even know Oman had a 2nd division, and I'm freaking from there.
I can't see anything coming of this. It could just be one of those things. Arsenal opened a 'soccer school' in Oman a couple of years ago, and last year they opened a store selling official arsenal merchandise - the first of its kind for any club in Oman. So it could be a marketing thing/strengthening relations thing.

Re: January Transfers
The Omani player trial could probably be a marketing gimmick. I remember a few years ago one of the Sheikhs of Dubai had invested in Portsmouth and then they kept sending Emirati players for trial. None of them made it though, don't know whether it was for lack of talent or money. Some of the players were really good.

It's been really quiet on the transfer front for us. I don't know whether that is a good or bad thing.
