Re: January transfers
Arsenal have been linked with a long list of players in that position, such as Capoue, Biglia, M’Vila and Wanyama, but the name of Diame keeps cropping up. It was reported a few days ago that West Ham have issued the player with an ultimatum. They want him to sign a new contract worth £50,000 a week and have given him until the end of the week to agree. Wenger has done nothing to deflect rumours after he praised the 25-year old today.
“He has a great presence in the games. I have seen him have a big impact.”

Re: January transfers
Arsène Wenger insists he is still working “very hard” on adding two players to his squad during the January transfer window.
The Arsenal manager has been linked with a host of names this month, but has yet to make any significant moves in the market with just nine days remaining.
The Frenchman would not be drawn on the identities of potential targets, but admits he is still hopeful of bolstering his squad over the coming days.
“Yes [I still want two signings]. We work very hard on it,” Wenger said. “It is not the number that counts but the quality.
“I don't give you any names. I don’t come out on rumours because it would put [teams] in a bad position. The player as well.
“You have to respect the player has a contract somewhere, is playing and as long as the transfer is not done for anybody it is best not to talk about it because it doesn’t work. He has to continue to play where he is.”
is this bullshit or will we see players come in...
only the last day will tell.....(or probably the last hour)

I can respect the fact that he is not going to name names and we don't really know what is going on, but i wish Wenger would just STFU about "quality " and super duper quality. Squillaci, Chamakh, Santos (Gervinho). Are they super duper? NO!
Frankly if we're talking about a DM we don't need an extremely gifted player, we need Ray Parlour or someone who is going to run for 90 mins and not be intimidated by the opponent. If it is a forward we're looking at, skill level is more important.

Re: January transfers
Apart from unveiling a new player, Wenger can't really say anything that would make us happy.
If he names a player, and doesn't get him, we all say that it is an admission that we are short in that position.
If he doesn't all he can say is that he is trying.
And its funny how we look for people that may have inside information and is reliable. Even Wenger and the insiders cannot be certain what will happen. I'm sure transfer dealings take many twists and turns. I remember Steven Gerrard announcing he was going to Chelsea, then the next day he said he was staying at Liverpool. Nothing is certain. No one can be 'reliable' beyond knowing who we might be interested in or started a negotiation with.

There may be a reason why we have heard nothing about a move by Arsenal to take the powerful Senegalese midfielder Mohamed Diame from West Ham. The 25-year old player suspects that his current club are not playing ball and respecting the terms of his release clause. Diame is aware of interest from a number of clubs, but feels that officials at the Hammers are doing everything in their power to put off other clubs and buy time until the transfer window closes.
The Senegal international is furious and thinking of reporting his club to FIFA, reports the Daily Mail. West Ham have apparently received an offer from Arsenal but have demanded an official bid in writing before any club is allowed to talk to their star player. Arsene Wenger and Arsenal do not want everyone to know their business until a deal is done so are wary of making an official bid.
Sam Allardyce may have inadvertently alerted Diame when he gave a press conference last week. The manager stumbled over his words, quickly changing `no bid` to `no official bid` from Arsenal. They have apparently issued Diame with an ultimatum to sign a new deal, and they also tried to exaggerate the extent of his recent injury in order to make his transfer less attractive.
Wenger praised Diame yesterday and will hopefully now know that he is keen on the move to the Emirates, making an official bid just a formality.

Re: January transfers
Arsene Wenger has warned Arsenal fans not to expect any "miracle" signings during the January transfer. He said: "If we perform at full potential we cannot expect any miracle from outside, we want to make things happen inside. If someone else can strengthen our squad, we will do it of course, but we have the resources inside to do well."We have two players in every position, that should be enough, plus the young players in behind."
Oh great i knew one good performance against west ham would stop him signing anyone! "If we perform at full potential" well arsene the fact we are behind the top lot proves we arent playing to full potential! Get your wallet out and sign someone.

Re: January transfers
The Gunners, who head to Brighton for Saturday's FA Cup fourth-round tie, have been linked with a string of players across Europe, from Barcelona's David Villa and Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels, Montpellier playmaker Younes Belhanda to West Ham's combative midfielder Mohamed Diame.
Wenger, however, insists his main concern is about maintaining performance levels on the back of their midweek 5-1 thrashing of West Ham at Emirates Stadium, which kickstarted their Barclays Premier League campaign.
"What I worry about is getting the players who have been injured back fit, to get the players who play for this club to perform at full potential," Wenger said at this morning's pre-match press conference.
"If we perform at full potential we cannot expect any miracle from outside, we want to make things happen inside.
"If someone else can strengthen our squad, we will do it of course, but we have the resources inside to do well.
"We have two players in every position, that should be enough, plus the young players in behind.
"But if we find the top-class players in any position, we never refuse to strengthen our squad."
Wenger stressed Arsenal had not lodged any formal bids with their reported targets.
He said: "We have been linked with David Villa, like Chelsea, but there's nothing concrete there. We are not on the case."
On Hummels, the Gunners boss said: "No, I can't imagine Dortmund selling their defenders in the middle of the season anyway and we have not made any approach there."
Diame stressed he was happy at Upton Park on Thursday, having only moved there from Wigan in the summer.
Wenger said: "We cannot come out with the names we are on. We have not approached West Ham on that."
Overall, Wenger is not a big fan of the January window.
"I think it should be all completely cut out or limited to two players," he said.
"It is unfair for the league that some teams who have played for example now twice Newcastle already have an advantage on teams who play Newcastle now they have bought six or seven players.
"You do not face exactly the same team so I believe the number of players you could buy should be limited."
Arsenal will be without captain Thomas Vermaelen because of a minor ankle injury tomorrow.
Midfielders Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky are back in contention.
Wenger has called for his men to continue where they left off against the Irons, running in four goals in the space of 10 minutes at the start of the second half.
"We wanted to respond and get the points because we have to make up some ground (in the Premier League)," he said.
"What is very important for me is the manner in which we responded.
"It was a continuity of the second half at Chelsea and from now on, it's important that we continue like that."
Wenger, though, will be taking nothing for granted against the Seagulls, who knocked Newcastle out in round three and are in the npower Championship promotion shake-up.
He said: "They play out from the back, have a lot of possession and a big South American influence with their manager, the players they have, and the way they play.
"You know you will face a typical away game in the Premier League."
Soooooo....nobody coming in....might as well just say it get it over and done with....

Re: January transfers
Arsenal are set to allow one of their longest serving players to leave Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong looks set to leave the club in the coming days, after hinting on Twitter that his time with the Gunners was coming to an end.
Frimpong today changed the name of his Twitter account from Frimpong26AFC to IAMFRIMPONG26, and posted a rather intriguing update today – seen below: (in the link)
Leaving aside the Yoga syntax – headed to the Dagobah system, Emmanuel? – the tweet seems quite clear cut: Frimpong looks set to leave the Gunners in the coming days.
His destination is currently unclear – though some speculation has emerged that the buying club could in fact be Saturday’s opponents Brighton and Hove Albion.
It would be an intriguing move for the club too.
Arsene Wenger was without Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin against West Ham on Wednesday evening, and played Aaron Ramsey in the holding role in their stead.
That meant Frimpong was the only defensive midfielder left in the squad, and he only merited a place on the bench.
Perhaps after a promising youth career in which he looked set to graduate to the first team alongside Jack Wilshere, Frimpong – who has had loan spells at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic – has not quite made it at Arsenal.

Really sad cause you know Frimpong is Arsenal through and through and would bleed for our shirt, in the end though he just doesn't seem to have been good enough, those injuries have halted his progress a lot unfortunately. Amazed though that we're giving up on him so soon after two really bad year long injuries, especially considering we've always been lenient with other injury prone players in the past...

Totally agree! I would have liked to have seen him in the game on Saturday then look at a loan for him for the rest of the season, there seems no need to rush these decisions, unless ofcourse a DM is coming in and there really is no point in keeping him due to yet another player in front of him?
