Should keep this going.
Kyle Bartley starts today for Rangers.
Vito Mannone played for Hull yesterday in a 3-1 win. Was at fault for Ipswich's goal.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
We have sold Luke Freeman to Stevenage for an undisclosed fee. This came out of the blue, would have thought he gets until the end of the season. We've kept on much worse players for much longer.
Not that I think he would have made it in the 1st team or anything. But good luck to him.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
I've watched a couple but honestly Scottish football is such hard work to watch. The last match I watch was a couple of weeks ago and Bartley was basically playing at number 10. I mean, they often play him in midfield and that, but bloody hell, it tells you something when the biggest club in Scotland is playing a young centre half behind the striker. He most plays at DM of course, but Blimey.
Anyway, I'm surprised Freeman has been let go like that. I wonder if we ended up making a profit on him after his fee and subsequent wages are accounted for. Seems unlikely.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
I doubt it. To even get the 200k fee back would be a stretch. But we would have included a sell-on fee and things like that. So let's hope he does a David Bentley and makes us a few million in a few years time.

Only takes one transfer to a top champ side/lower prem to make the money back. Freeman does seem to know where the back of the net is so there is always hope we can make his fee back and some

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
Another start for the reserves for Park and Ryo. Toral makes his reserves debut, too. 1pm KO against Villa who have a very good youth set up and have already beaten us this season.
Arsenal Reserves: Shea, Hajrovic, Angha, Boateng, Hoyte, Miyaichi, Toral, Ebecilio, Eastmond, Park, Murphy
Subs: Rees, Charles-Cook, Ansah, Monteiro, Brislen Hall.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
He hasn't. Spent most of his time here injured unfortunately which has hampered his development. But not good enough. He, Hoyte, Eastmond from that line up are all playing for moves at the end of the season.
Park got subbed off at half time for Josh Rees, who has taken 10 minutes to equalise.
Currently 1-1 with about half an hour left.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
How was Park?
The clueless media all claimed that Wenger made panic buys in the Summer which is obvioudly not the case, bar maybe Park? We stole him at the 11th hour from Lille and maybe took a slight gamble, which hasnt paid off yet, at least he didnt cost much at all.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
Park is such a weird one. Had a massive conversation with a mate at work about it today. Wenger doesn't buy players without having scouted the shit out of them. The cynic in me thinks it's just a marketing exercise; clearly it's an area we are trying to exploit.
And on the subject of Toral, I hope he choses to play for England.

Toral must be pretty special playing in the reserves at 16. Hopefully can expect big things from him

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
Arsenal face intense competition to sign the Southampton left-back Luke Shaw, with Chelsea and Manchester City both now in the race for the 16-year-old who is rated as one of the best prospects in English football.
The Championship club value the player at around £4m even though he is yet to make his first-team debut. It is anticipated that Shaw, an unused substitute for Nigel Adkins' side in the weekend's 2-1 win over Coventry City in the FA Cup third round, will be watched by all the Premier League's leading clubs when he plays for Southampton under-18s in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup against Bolton at the Reebok Stadium tonight.
Arsenal have so far been confident of signing the player, having also secured Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from the club in the last six years, but Shaw will not lack for suitors. He is a regular in the England under-17s team and his potential has been stressed by the Football Association's director of football development, Sir Trevor Brooking.
Originally from Kingston, Surrey, Shaw is understood to have agreed a professional deal with Southampton to begin when he turns 17 in July, the earliest point he can sign such terms. The new Elite Player Performance Plan system, which begins from the start of next season, is unlikely to affect Southampton in this case, such is the scale of the interest in him.
Even under the new system, the buying and selling clubs can agree to put aside the pre-established sliding scale for calculating compensation and come to a "mutually agreed fee".
Shaw represents another triumph for the Southampton academy who have a formidable record in recent years, producing Gareth Bale, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain among others. The current under-18s team, coached by former Southampton player Jason Dodd, beat Sheffield United 7-0 to reach the fourth round. Their winger Calum Chambers is also highly rated.
Whether Shaw leaves this month or next summer will depend on whether the clubs chasing him can agree a fee with Southampton. An asking price of £4m is extremely high for a teenager who has not even played senior football but the market value for the best young players, and in particular, the best young English players, is rising all the time.
Shaw is part of the England under-17s squad that will play a round-robin with Georgia, Ukraine and Spain in Georgia in March. The winning team will play in the European Under-17 Championship in Slovenia in May.
Both Manchester City and Liverpool have been active buyers of teenagers recently, with smaller clubs now more willing to cash in their academy products lest the coming EPPP rules rein in the scale of fees. In most cases it is a question of out-bidding rival clubs by offering ever-more lucrative professional deals to boys.

Re: Reserves / Youth Thread
4m for a left back we won't see for a few years?
It's a gamble, but if he does come good, 4m will be nothing at all.
Alternatively, we could take that 4m and put it in the Gotze-fund.
