Anybody hear the commentator mention Green Day's playing in June at the Emirates? Followed by "But it's Arsenal who've been rocking here today..." Fuck conceding, that cheesy comment ruined the game for me. My word.

Great win. S'hampton made City and Utd sweat and we ran riot over them.

Some of the attacking football is great to watch, even better than usual, and the defence looked solid again too. Just think we have Sagna and Wilshere coming back, and Kocielny can't find a way into the team despite being outstanding last season. Signs are good.

That was always likely to be the case with a sub performance. Don't feel sorry for him, it's ridiculously early for that.

It was reassuring to see that once again Theo Walcott was the odd one out - both technically and in terms of understanding. Either incapable or unwilling to do the right thing as frequently as other players.

What a great day! Felt like exorcising some demons.

Great confidence boosters for Gervinho and Ramsey. Both of them need a few games like that, rather than being under pressure.

Now we have a challenging couple of weeks where our defence will be properly tested, and we will really see if our attackers can rise to the occaision.

Feels like the season is finally underway properly!

If that had been Messi people would have been fapping. Was a lovely move, unlucky not to score.

Player ratings?

Chesney: 4/10 - when he burst on the scene he brought assurance and solidity which we had been missing for a long time with Almunia. But he looked shaky today and had me worried a lot. His form over the last few months has been rotten, and I wonder if he's losing confidence. He seems to be the kind of player who needs lots and lots of it. Hope he gets over this.

Jenks: 7 - looked solid, worked hard, same old Jenks. Getting better with games.

Mert: 7.5 - made a couple of crucial interventions to relieve the pressure. His heading is also getting better I think.

Vermaelen: - 8.5 - captain's performance. Read somewhere that he made all his passes, won all his tackles, and won all his aerial duels. Could've capped it with a goal. Good stuff.

Gibbs: 8.5 - you can't argue with 2 assists, even if they were off own goals. Added a lot of width, but I was worried about some of his defending. Made two risky slide tackles in our box. Can definitely improve that element of his game.

Arteta: 8 - always excellent.

Coquelin: 7 - he didn't do bad. As is often the case, looked a bit nervous early on but grew into the game quickly. Was tenacious, and won the ball back after giving it away a couple of times. But I don't think he's the answer to the Diaby question... Ramsey came on and was a lot more dynamic immediately.

Santi: 8.5 - He's setting the bar pretty damn high for himself, the little bastard.

Ox: 7 - by no means a bad performance, but wasn't as influential as he would've liked. Had some awesome moments though.

Gervais: 9 - well deserved, you bald son of a bitch. Loved his first goal, he just thrashed it. That was a sign of his growing confidence, something we really missed after AFCON. When he's on his game, defenders don't know what he's going to do, which makes him a great asset. I don't think he knows what he's going to do either! False nine-d it greatly today, MOTM.

Podolski: 8.5 - what a hard working bastard. Doesn't give the ball away, doesn't missplace passes, and is very accurate with his shooting. I was sceptical about his signing, but he's winning me over.

SUBS

Ramsey: 7.5 - Ramsey a bit of a conundrum. I wouldn't really describe him as a confidence player, because even when he's low on confidence he's always trying to make things happen and never shying away from the action. I wouldn't trust him in the Cazorla position because I don't think he's creative or composed enough. But I'm not sure the Diaby position is his either, as I don't think he's disciplined or defensive enough. He's a strange one. He clearly sees the pitch uniquely, as evidenced by his passing and movement. I just don't think he's found his role with us yet. Great cameo yesterday though.

Walcott: 7.5 - took his goal well, had a couple of chances to set up Giroud.

Giroud: 7 - didn't really have enough time to make a big impact, clearly carrying the burden of not yet scoring, he looks like he's trying too hard. Will come good.

The one thing we're missing in the squad is a senior GK who is happy to come in when required but not demanding the starting spot each week. Mannone doesn't really complement the youth and promise of Szczesny that well because he is barely older in GK terms, less experienced in the Premier League and looks insecure.

There must be a solid senior citizen GK out there somewhere.

Think 4/10 for Chesney is a little harsh. Apart from his balls-up I don't remember him having a save to make.

But I do agree that we need a senior keeper with experience to put pressure on him, as Mannone and Flappy won't cut it.

But his distribution in the second half was terrible, and, against a better team, we could have really been punished for it.
