Re: Champions / EUROPA League
All we can hope for now is that Abromovich is convinced this squad is good enough and doeant spend much on players and that their general decline goes on further...

Hopefully Chelsea don't move beyond the qualification rounds. They truly don't deserve to be in the CL next season.

We can laugh at the Spuds all we want, but without Martin Fulop we would be in the Europa League right now. Fact.

What's your point? We edged out spurs by one point. You can literally look at any win or draw and say "If we didn't get that result, we'd be the Europa League right now."
Are you saying we're lucky? Are you saying we don't deserve to be in the CL?

So will Chelsea have qualifications to get to the group stage or are they straight into it?

Re: Champions / EUROPA League
They have to qualify, like Mike said, and go into the 1st round of qualifiers unlike the 4th placed team going straight into the 3rd round.

Chelsea’s victory in the Champions League Final on Saturday has no influence on Arsenal’s status in the competition next season.
Arsène Wenger’s side will go straight into the Group Stages, where they will be joined by Manchester United, Manchester City and the Stamford Bridge club.
Next season, no Premier League team will have to go through the qualification rounds.

Man, last night hurt and upset me.

Re: Champions / EUROPA League
this also means..spurs will go one step backwards next season instead of forward.
chelsea will always have money to compete.since spurs are out of ucl...they wont have that extra financial incentive from ucl money.i dont see them spending a whole lot of money in transfer window now.

Does it really matter who wins when we don't?
I'm not going to get worked up deciding between one team we don't like and another we don't like. Between one nouveau riche club and one with more history but which maintains nevertheless its privileged position through money.

Lucky. We barely did it through our own actions. It was gifted to us. Would we have created a 3rd goal vs WBA otherwise? Who knows. Didn't look likely at the time.
Instead of our season ending with fist pumping joy, once again it ended with a sigh of relief. By the grace of Fulop's punch backwards on to the boot of Koscielny, we weren't made to pay for playing like shit. So that's lucky. 1-3-1 in our last 5 games. 5 points of 15.
For me it's never about merit. Did we merit 3rd over Spurs? Did Chelsea merit the win over Bayern? No, yes, maybe, but that's the way it played out.
Credit to Chelsea for parking the bus and scoring on their only real chance.Too bad Robben fucked up his penalty. It seems you always pay for missing those. A win is a win.
Of course points lost in February contribute just as much points lost in May. City won the league on goal difference largely because they pasted United 6-1 in October.
I like to look back over the whole season to try to remember how it was that we lost 4-3 to Blackburn, or 2-1 to Wigan. We should have won those (or should not have lost) and in the end those results were just as important as game 38.
But football is played chronologically. As much as Spurs collapsed, they won on the last day vs. Fulham. We had to win to keep 3rd place and the difference between us and them was that we only did so because Martin Fulop screwed up.

the sickening thing is that it was more luck than money that got them through, not saying they have not spent big over the years, but most of the big money signings have been with them for a long time now and the recent most expensive one barely played a role in the match. You could say they defended ruggedly during the semis but in the finals they literally rode their luck for large parts of the match with Bayern spurning chance after chance. And just like that, when everybody thought they were past it, they've become the only London club that can boast off a CL trophy and we are the only club in the top 4 that can't..

Like you said - we're a top four club. Have been every year for over a decade. It's nothing to moan about.

Anyone see the Madrid Ajax match? Golazo from Benzema and Ronaldo with another hat trick. Couple of nice goals for him as well.
Dortmund v. City was a good watch as well. Joe Hart truly is a world class keeper.
