Re: Movies
Can't fucking wait for the The Muppets. Two of my 5 favourite movies of all time are Muppets' Treasure Island and Muppets' Christmas Carol (the other three movies being Jurassic Park, Jumanji and Cool Runnings)

So, now we all know that David has an awful taste in movies.

Piss off, Muppet Xmas Carol and Cool Runnings are great! And Jurassic Park is probably in my Top 10 of all time. Jumanji is meh though, and I've not seen Muppet Treasure Island.

Re: Movies
I can remember watching Muppets' Treasure Island many years ago, but can't remember anything about the actual film. A friend of mine (who is both a muppets' expert and a film student) reliably informs me that it is a crime against cinema.
Jurassic Park is by far Spielberg's best film. That said, it doesn't really have that much competition...

Re: Movies
Also, am going to see the Artist tomorrow. It's had rave reviews, and as someone with a lot of time for silent cinema (picked up a love of early German cinema and Buster Keaton during my degree) it's great to see a film returning to that era. Has anyone seen it yet, and does it live up to the hype?

I think it has a lot to do with what I characterise as my favourotes. They are the movies that I can watch a million times amd never get sick of. That even though I know every line, they still make me laugh. I also like plenty of actually good movies.

Okay, that's fair. As long as you recognize that some in that list are really not that good.
But that's a fun question: Favorite bad movie/guilty pleasure movie? For me, it would be (and this is kind of obvious) Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Jaws is ok, I guess. I also enjoyed the Indiana Jones films quite a lot as a kid (the most recent sequel is one of the worst films I have ever seen. ET is sentimental nonsense. I guess I'm just not a fan of Spielberg's overblown sentimentality in general.

Even by Curtis' standards, Love Actually is all over the place. Guilty pleasure? I guess I kinda feel guilty about liking some of Judd Apatow's films, but maybe they're a bit too good to be considered a guilty pleasure.

Yes, as a guilty pleasure.
Can't think of any others. I rarely watch a film more than once every 5-10 years. Haven't seen top gun since I was 11.

Just came back from the Artist. Really enjoyable. Everyone in the cinema seemed entranced, proof that you don't need dialogue to tell a great story!

Re: Movies
Go see Brad Pitt's new movie Called "Money Ball"
It is about a baseball, General Manager (GM). This movie reminds me soooo fucking much about how Arsenal is set up and it's fight to keep players and compete at the same time.
It's a baseball movie, but It really isn't. They don't show baseball the whole time. I promise. It's about Brad Pitt's character hiring a Economist from YALE and how they put formulas together to make a great team with players other teams either overlooked ...and the ones that simply weren't wanted.
Great movie. It's about how the baseball sysytem, just like and football system, is fucked up and flawed.

At least the draft system in the US gives the smaller teams a chance. The poorer clubs in football will never be able to catch up to the big boys
