no your right it was not based on world class stars..but now it has to be...he needs to spend and needs out and out quality...John Foxall wrote:Wenger's past success wasn't really based on signing world-class stars.Michael Foster wrote:and that wont get better until we bring in better payers as its obvious what we have cannot go up another level....still at the same level...we need the world class stars coming in...everyone will play better for it...John Foxall wrote:That's oversimplifying the situation. It's not just players we need, but to be far better tactically, positionally, stay calm etc.Michael Foster wrote:the funds are there.....
just bring in what we need and be done with it....
getting rid of the manager is not the answer.
Wenger cannot go on forever in any case, I really think his time is done. He certainly can't help us improve our results each year. If we're happen to carry on with this mediocrity then fine, stick with him. Otherwise the manager's position is the only change left to make.
wenger can still continue in my book...just needs to up his game....
What makes you think he can up his game at his age? Is he willing to compromise in order to improve our chances of success? Recent years suggest no.
Oh we've conceded another penalty. Great.

Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa
But we can't attract these kinds of players due to inability/refusal to play top-tier wages and our lack of progress with which to attract them. We are stale, we don't progress, yet kid ourselves into thinking we can improve at the start of each season.Michael Foster wrote:no your right it was not based on world class stars..but now it has to be...he needs to spend and needs out and out quality...
If we don't spend money then the team has to be taught/coached to be far more streetwise, a little bit like the more negative but successful tactics at the end of last season. Needless to say AW has gone back to a free-for-all tactical set-up this season. We will not progress by doing that.
All we can do is clutch at straws like blaming our luck or blaming the ref.

i don't think we're trying to make excuses for a terrible performance, but the ref has been shocking, you really can't argue with that.

It's almost too easy to blame the ref. Most of the work needed to get ourselves in this mess was our own doing.Jason Morrison wrote:Why not? Of course part of me wants to call him a **** but I'm used to this kind of dross now.
Like I say, change of manager is the only big change left to make. Only those who've only ever known AW as Arsenal manager seem to think no-one else could make a positive change.

Re: Arsenal v Aston Villa
We could've had Higuain on the pitch today and we would've still been overconfident and ripped apart by Benteke and Agbonlahor with our defence left very exposed. Money alone can't solve this.
Disappointing return from Koscielny as well. Just when we think we can rely on him as one of our most consistent performers he makes rash decisions in a game like this.
