Season 2013/14
It sounds like Arteta may be out for 6 weeks.
Vermaelen and Monreal are already injured. The start of the season now seams familiar with the 2011/12 season where we had an injury crisis, copped a 8-2 loss to United, then bought 5 players on the final day of transfers.

I've been pretty optimistic most of the 15 years I've followed Arsenal FC, but I have a bad feeling this season is going to be garbage. I hope that I'm wrong.

Not sure if some of the peripheral players like Frimpong would be on it.
I'm half joking but there is a possibility that Fabianski might have to play as a defender!
Also, the squad list for Fenerbahce was submitted early last week and apparently it can't be altered even for injuries.Jonathan Prendergast wrote:Now Gibbs and The Ox are injured, and Kos will be out for the Fulham game.

Re: Season 2013/14
you're forgetting to add the champions league too but jokes aside i never understood supporters who says we will lose before the game even starts. i mean, the players haven't kicked the ball yet and already you have made up your mind that your team is going to lose. its depressing to watch a match with my frens who think like this. so leaving my sensibilities aside i am still going to be optimistic about this season.
that aside, season 2013/14 .. is it just me that everytime i am watching a game more than being worried about the 3points i find myself praying .. please no more injuries, no more injuries ... everytime a player goes down i crap my pants. we always been unlucky with injuries but the start of this season tops my list

call me an optimistic fool but i believe we will win something this year ..... without additions and injury or even better with additions we are title contenders. its just, now and then we self destruct and everything falls apart

Re: Season 2013/14
I think we have the team to challenge, just not the squad. Particularly in holding mid and striking positions, where if we lose Arteta or Giroud, we will be much weaker
I didn't write too much into the Villa loss. They are better than last year, plus we copped some bad luck. It did show how much we miss Arteta.

Agree with Mr. Prendergast, we have a very very good team, but we have to make 3 additions. A center back, a DMish player, and a striker. I'd take Cabaye, a third choice center back and Benzema, anything more/better is a bonus.

Re: Season 2013/14
When I look back at the past 10 seasons, we possibly have better depth in defence than any other season. Sure Vermaelen is out for now, but as Sagna plays both CB and RB, we have great depth. 2 injuries won't hurt us now, like previous seasons when it would see players like Senderos, Cygan, Luhzny and other players playing.
The only season I remember when we didn't have many injuries was the invincables year. The same 13 or so players played almost every game.
In the short term, it would be great to get a centre back, but I will be calm if we don't. I think most important is cover for Arteta, unless Frimpong steps up, and a 2nd striker would be great to rotate with and push Giroud.

Re: Season 2013/14
Does anyone think Frimpong can play role to play this season? He was so promising a season or two ago, and now it seems his Arsenal career has been written off by most.
I don't buy the injury argument either, why does a long term injury immediately mean you have less chance of making it? I appreciate that it's less than ideal to lose 12 months of development, but it's not a death sentence for your career just because you sustain a 12 month knee injury. If you have the talent, you'll show it when your body allows you to, whenever that might be.
Whether he has the talent is the question.
