Signing of the Season
Well just like the title says, who do you think is the signing of the season?
Here are my candidates:
Demba Ba (although he faded a little, but still what a buy)
Aguerro (he faded somehow and his price tag requires more from him)
Mata
Arteta
Jelavic, Progranyak or whatever the hell his name is, and Cisse have all been good, but were signed in January. Can we consider them?
Out of the bunch I'd say Arteta because of his importance in the team, fair price tag, his consistency throughout the season, and because I'm biased.

Papiss Cisse? 10 goals and 4 assists in 9 games. Really good.

Re: Signing of the Season
Demba Ba's goals were as important as RVP's were for us (around 45% of their goals at one point were from Ba) up until Cisse arrived. And Ba was a free transfer so I think he has to take the honours, especially in a pound-for-pound sense. And many people thought Newcastle would struggle this season (I did) but he has been one of the reasons (one of the many reasons) they haven't.
The others already mentioned are all high up on the list, but would also add:
- Cabaye. Has been an important part of Newcastle's midfield.
- Adebayor. Do loan signings count? If they do then I think he gets included, double figures in goals and assists this season.
- Parker. Up until recently, although that goes for the whole Spurs side, a crucial part of their team.

Aguero. 20 prem goals this season, 20 in total. Don't let RVP blind you, Aguero has had a very good debut season. But yes, he cost quite a bit.

he's tailed off a bit though, hasn't he?? didn't he have 13 goals way back in november????
but of course, he's had a very good debut season, like you said.

Re: Signing of the Season
Can't think of anyone else who hasn't been mentioned. I'd say Arteta has been our best signing, and in the Prem I'd go with Aguero, unfortunately. I can't forgive him for scoring the only goal in my first game at the Emirates.

Re: Signing of the Season
I agree with Demba Ba, 27 starts, 16 goals and 2 assists for a free transfer is amazing league form.
Pardew for Manager of the year as well considering how average most of the Newcastle squad is.

Re: Signing of the Season
I'm torn between the 2 (Ba and Aguero). Both have dropped off a bit.
Probably go for Aguero, as City as a team have dropped off, making it tough for a striker, where as Cisse hasn't had trouble scoring for Newcastle.

Re: Signing of the Season
Aguero's price tag takes the sheen off of his 20 goals. For me Ba would be the signing of the season.
Re: Signing of the Season
Ba has the advantage of his price tag, Ba hasn't done it since Xmas, and we seem to disqualify Jan signings. I think there is no clear frontrunner here....

Re: Signing of the Season
Which is why I chose Arteta. He hasn't been as flashy as any of the other names, but to have at least 25 7/10 or above games in 30 or so matches that he has played is just fantastic. Very important and consistent player.Zaid Derweesh wrote:Ba has the advantage of his price tag, Ba hasn't done it since Xmas, and we seem to disqualify Jan signings. Has to be Arteta. Looking at the level of consistency, not just the best signing for us, but also in the league.

Re: Signing of the Season
Wasn't RVP " like a new signing " tho?
I would say Aguero as well. Now with Tevez back., could see more from him.
