Re: Arsenal vs Chelsea
Our players still diving in all over the shop. Would've suited Per's calm decision-making this game!
But what's done is done, hopefully we can rescue a point.
It's true though that leaving out our only ever-present centre-half is strange.

Holy fucking missed tackles.. bad time to bring on Walcott. Chelsea will just sit back and Theo won't have much room to run. This isn't Coventry.

When you defend like we have, it's better to be thankful for a draw.

If you want to compete for the title you can't perform like this at home

Re: Arsenal vs Chelsea
We just seem disjointed today, lacking an edge, perhaps the result of playing a team who can defend well.

While that's true, it's easily explained. It's very difficult to get anything from games against title rivals if you go behind. They can play the game as they want.

Exactly Efan " No quality in the final third...lost count of how many times Arsenal have smashed crosses into the box hoping someone will get on the end.."

Re: Arsenal vs Chelsea
Sorry, still looking at the evidence and drawing the wrong conclusions.
Today has been an exercise in shooting ourselves in the foot. Against top sides, it never works to say they score two so we need to score three. Of course when you need a goal late in the game we look toothless, they have a curtain of defenders blocking us out. Yes we could've done a little better but the fault stems from our defending.
It has reminded me of the 2-2 against Man Utd in late 2007. Exactly the same situation when we went behind they had Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo counter-attacking against us.
Shame that Giroud still can't wrap his foot around it in the same situation, always off balance.

Yeah, it's not as is Chelsea are a truly outstanding side, but they have enough vetrans, and RDM have them well enough drilled to neutralize most of our attempts...John Foxall wrote:While that's true, it's easily explained. Outstanding? I think they're a work in progress, like us. But they didn't do anything quite as bad as our defending today.
We could've won this, got something from the match at least.
We're still essentially the same side as last season. We have problems.

Sorry, that was supposed to be " not as IF Chelsea are a truly outstanding side" . They did only well enough to hinder our attacking play. We had chances to break them down.John Foxall wrote:Michael Schatzky wrote:Yeah, it's not as is Chelsea are a truly outstanding side, but they have enough vetrans, and RDM have them well enough drilled to neutralize most of our attempts...John Foxall wrote:While that's true, it's easily explained. I was agreeing with Efan Ekoku in that on a few occasions if we had attempted beat the defender and carry it into the box instead of attempting crosses to no one in particualr, we would have been better served.

No, no Dan ,let the shitstorm begin. It is OVER ,we SUCK...
Actually just feel a bit "meh" right now, myself.
Definitely unimpressed, I think this game showed us there are few things we need to improve on.

Re: Arsenal vs Chelsea
Dan, no-one is losing their heads, but that is a game to tear your hair out over. Especially the decision to drop Per, our only CB so far this season who does the basic things well, the only one with a proper defender's CV when he joined the club in fairness.
Michael, agree in that aimless crosses all end up being cleared by Terry. Unfortunately there is rarely someone to pick out. Either because the runs are not made or because Chelsea defend well. The exception was the cross to Podolski which was a good run well picked out and probably should've been scored. Towards the end though Chelsea just had too many people back, it took something outstanding to pick a man out. Our difficulties were of our own making.
