Re: Alex Song
I was wondering if he would see much game time at Barca.
Looked through Keita's and Mascherano's appearences each season. both get between 25 and 35 league games each season, plus 10 or so in Europe each.
For Song, if he doesn't take the opportunity now, it may never arise again.
But if he stays, he will soon forget their interest ever happened, on go on happy at Arsenal.

Re: Alex Song
I cannot see him getting game time at all to be honest....but it's one of the things...barca come knocking players eyes light up...personaly seeing how irate he gets when he is not playing for us,injuries and so on its constant game time he craves....
That's something he won't get at barca.

Re: Alex Song
Hard to get excited about Cazorla, Poldi and Giroud when it's the same one step forward, two steps back bullshit. Wouldn't be surprised to see Van Persie, Song and Walcott all leave.

Just need to get out of this transfer window with all 3 still here....then a sigh of relief..

Re: Alex Song
'IF' he isn't replaced then it would be a nightmare, the thing that worries me is that we have two young defensive midfielders so Wenger might think "I will give them a chance for 12 months" or maybe Arteta or Diaby would be pushed much further back. I'm not happy, I really dont think he should be allowed to leave.

There is nothing on M'Vila at all now, I really dont think we are even after him anymore.

Re: Alex Song
They are losing their best player though, its good news for us. I would be gutted to see M'Vila there if we end up picking from Coquelin, Frimpong and Diaby...hardly the same standard.

Bahaha. I understand Kameni saying that because Song is his teammate and what not, but come on. I like Song, but he is far from the complete player and no where as good as Yaya.
Song has come so far in 3 years, and is only 24. It's hard to compare, but was Yaya as good at 24 years old?
I'd say yes. Wenger did pass on Yaya after having him on trial earlier in his career. Wenger said he didn't sign him because of passport issues, Yaya's impatience and his versatility which made it tough to give him a fixed position. I think Yaya is more naturally talented than Song and can dominate the midfield as good as anyone out there. Song has come a long way the past few years but he is far from the finished product and won't see much playing time at Barca which seems like his likely destination.

Re: Alex Song
Totally random but I was thinking about midfield permeatations without Song and nobody coming in, any combination without including Abou Diaby means that our midfield is FUCKING TINY!!!! We will suffer without Songs aerial ability when defending set pieces, no doubt!

sign to Cazorla, Giroud and Podolski are 3 steps forward but losing a Song are 4 steps backwards.

Any news on Song? Do we just cross our fingers until the end of the transfer window? When does it finish?

The noises aren't good are they? Seems the general consensus on here is M'Vila > Song but I'm not convinced, I really don't want to see anymore key players out the door.
Then again the fuck do I know I trust Wenger knows what he's doing.

Re: Alex Song
There is often a preference for brand new shiny expensive players.
For example, until losing RVP, generally fans were more optimistic about this Arsenal season than previous ones, as we had signed 3 players, despite them probably not being as good as the ones we've lost in previous seasons.
I prefer to keep the squad stable. M'Vila may be good, but it is a risk, compared to Song who I think is an excellent player and has played in the team for a few years now.

Re: Alex Song
If Song doesn't want to be here - and it seems his attitude "stinks" - then he is replaceable. 20 million for Alex Song - don't forget his Charlton days! 20 million for Alex Song, if it reaches that much, is excellent business. Lets do it, lets overhaul this squad, and try again.
I hope we can get Nuri Sahin in as well, it seems less likely by the day, but it would be quite a coup. I no longer have attachment to any of these players - they aren't unique pieces of a complex jigsaw - irrepleaceable. They're more like nuts and bolts on a car or something - replaceable, interchangeable. If Song goes, get M'Vila in. If RVP goes, hopefully we can get someone capable or replicating to an acceptable level his goals, or his all round play, or both. Lets do it.

Re: Alex Song
Sounds like he might be leaving.
Wenger said. "Anyway, I am happy with my midfield options whatever happens with Song. In fact, I feel we are better prepared this season than we have been for some time. We have so many options and even though we are all disappointed to lose Van Persie, the squad we have is strong in every department."

To be brutally honest with you all...
He is leaving...expect it now, face up to it he is gone.....
Makes all more sense why Wenger had been talking so much about diaby....
This is really pissing me off...a decent looking sesaon is now beyond it yet again....

Lets not forget Wenger did say we're not done in the transfer market yet, I'm sure we'll get m'villa and hopefully sahin, that certainly makes us a lot stronger. Right now song is our only DM, but he isn't exactly the dogs bollocks, we can definately do better. Although i do still hope we keep him.

Re: Alex Song
If Diaby stays fit, he'll be a useful player (before refusing to sign a new contract and buggering off somewhere). But we can't rely on him. Nonetheless, we look a more solid squad this year. I think we could do with another striker, to be honest, but at least we're not entirely dependent on Robin. If we lose Song and add Sahin and M'Vila I'll be chuffed, if we add just one I'll be satisfied.
And now Bartley is out and Squillaci will likely follow, I think we'll look to buy a versatile defender.
If we can get all that business done before Sept 1st (a big ask), we'll be a stronger team.

Re: Alex Song
We definitely need another mid in, Vila shoul be a must....no really point as such brining in a one season guy...we need players in for the cause....for the long haul...
Would have hoped that we get someone in before the first game before Wenger 'sees all he needs to' with what we have and decides 'I have enough class and togetherness with my boys' to see us through..rather than the seasons gone when everybody but him could see otherwise......
Players in please Wenger.....sharpish...*click,click*

Bad timing, no? That means Coquelin must start tomorrow I suppose ... or ... DIABY?!
To think our squad looked in such good shape just a few days ago, now there are holes to fill again.
