But players do perform better when there is a contract negotiation.
I am not sure that Theo would necessarily do the dirty on the contract if he resigned and start slipping back into useless mode....
It would not benifit him one bit...could be shipped out in the next window....
If Theo loves us as much as he does give him the contract....he has started to shine...and if in the long run he slips ship him out...
It would be extremely generous to suggest that Theo is in complete control of when he is useless. What about those games when the opposition sits deep and he simply has nothing to offer? No money or motivation will change anything there.

I don't think it is 100% either way.
But the contract negotiations have seemed to steel his determination.

Whilst he isn't exactly Thierry Henry or Dennis Bergkamp, it is very important that Theo Walcott stays at the club.

Yeah. He is replaceable in terms of his ability but I want him to stay. With all the players recently coming out and saying he needs to stay it will obviously disappoint the squad if he went. We don't need that. I'm still not sure of him over Giroud upfront though, think I prefer Theo on the right.

http://www.arsenalnews.co.uk/breaking-news-theo-walcott-signs-4-year-contract-extension-at-arsenal/
It had just been reported by The Evening Times that Theo Walcott has signed a new contract at Arsenal. He has #SignedTheThing. Lol
According to the source, Walcott signed a four year deal which would see him earn £90 000-a-week. Some sources close to the club revealed the deal would be officially announced tomorrow.
This is what all Gunners had been longing to hear and I just hope we get a confirmation as soon as possible.
Stay tuned as we will give an update on this when the club officially confirms Theo Walcott's contract extension.

I agree. Very happy if he is staying.
8 goals from 9 starts and 7 sub appearances is good, especially when the team hasn't been performing that well. Him and Giroud provide good contrasting options.
His determination to prove himself as a striker will hopefully keep him on his toes and continue his improvement.

Love him or loathe him, keeping Theo is very important. He will never be a world beater but he is an important part of this team and his stats regarding goals/assists are already pretty decent and getting better. He is also only 23 so he still has a lot of scope to improve.

I completely agree. Really happy he signed or is very close to signing.. Offers so much with his pace and movement and now better finishing.

Re: Theo Walcott
Thinking about it a bit further, Southampton really showed an example of where Giroud can be useful and Theo can be useless.
Giroud had 19 touches in 32 minutes. Theo had 23 touches in 90 minutes. (c/o arseblog news by the numbers).
Very different styles that will suit different oppositions. Both obviously suit playing against Newcastle.

At the end of the day, having both Giroud and Walcott allow us to go into a game with a Plan B of some sort, something that we've lacked time and time again. Don't know if that's down to Wenger being stubborn about his philosophies, or just the players being unable to do something unpredictable.

Are other clubs now able to speak directly with him, as he would be in the last 6 months of his contract?

He can talk, walk and go to nightclubs with other clubs' representatives. He can even sign a pre-contract for a free transfer with them. In addition to that, agents can pass him brown envelopes full of wads of cash.
Jesus, I hope he does leave. I can't take any more of his twattery.

I see where you're coming from, I have had enough too with his behavior over the past months, but if you think about it from what is better for our club, it would surely be better if he stays.. we won't find a better replacement, certainly not in january (adrian would take time to adjust), so I say we be patient with him and make everything we can so that he signs. We don't have the luxury to be in a 'we are Arsenal and you can fuck off'' position.

I hope the Theo saga does not put other transfer talks on the back burner, something which seems to happen during every transfer window recently.
