Did Arteta go off injured? If so, that is a shame.
Also a worry that Gnabry is still out there, as he may be starting against Swansea.

OOopphh. Just made it. So cool by Olsson and Akpom. Nicely finished off my Monreal.
We've normally put out a better side than that to guarantee getting through so well done to the squad who just got us over the line.

indeed it was a win ugly with a fair bit of luck....but if we are to end this drought...its what we need!!John Foxall wrote:OOopphh. Just made it. So cool by Olsson and Akpom. Nicely finished off my Monreal.

this just gave me a chuckle on BBC sport
Great penalty shoot-out. Arsenal win 4-3 and Phil Brown breaks the world record for the use of 'young lads' in a 10-minute period.
The young boys, young lads showed great bottle. A fabulous night for the young lads, great stuff from young lads. They're young lads.

Chelsea at home in the next round by the way. Hopefully we have some proper 1st teamers back by then.

not much i would have thought as we went through....a loss would have been a different story..deep.gurung wrote:my thoughts exactly ...Elisabeth Studentschnig wrote:i wonder what effect that miss will have on gnabry...
the way i see it..he got out of jail by still going through..it should serve him as a lesson...but its also bit of a lottery the penalties...the best players in the world can still miss..the worse can win it...

Re: West Brom vs Arsenal
Mourinho will want to win the first trophy available, just like in 04/05. On the other hand, it gives us a good chance to put out a rival.Jason Morrison wrote:Chelsea at home in the next round by the way. Hopefully we have some proper 1st teamers back by then.
Our squad really isn't strong enough though, that much is so obvious tonight.
We're so short up front, I would have been in favour of bringing Joel Campbell back. If he's good enough to go on loan to a Champions League team in Olympiakos, then why can't he start making the odd sub appearance for us? We desperately need a different kind of attacker and for my money Gnabry and Myachi aren't good enough yet.

i should think it will be full starting 11....take chelsea out and carry on with the youngsters providing the draw is an easier one...Jason Morrison wrote:Chelsea at home in the next round by the way. Hopefully we have some proper 1st teamers back by then.

yeah, it's a good thing that it didn't matter in the end. hopefully it won't damage his confidence in any way.Michael Foster wrote:not much i would have thought as we went through....a loss would have been a different story..deep.gurung wrote:my thoughts exactly ...Elisabeth Studentschnig wrote:i wonder what effect that miss will have on gnabry...

Re: West Brom vs Arsenal
Today should be a warning. Given our lack of squad depth, the "youngsters" don't inspire the same confidence as our up-and-coming league cup teams used to. We'd need more mixed teams to give us a better chance of success.Michael Foster wrote:i should think it will be full starting 11....take chelsea out and carry on with the youngsters providing the draw is an easier one...Jason Morrison wrote:Chelsea at home in the next round by the way. Anyone know if this counts as Arsenal's 11th straight away win? I mean it was a 1-1 draw but we won the shootout and the match.

Re: West Brom vs Arsenal
to be fair, with pretty much everyone out injured wenger didn't really have much of a choice. if our injury list wasn't that long and our first teamers didn't need a rest, i'm sure he'd have mixed it up more. apparently the average age of our front 6 was 19.3 or something crazy like that... only at arsenal lol

Re: West Brom vs Arsenal
Yeah, of The Ox and Cazorla were available lately and for this game, we would be more likely to have seen a couple more experienced players in there.
This was a mixed team really. Fab, Nacho, Jenk, Verm, Per, Arteta, Gnabry, Ryo, Bendtner are all first team squad members. Only Eisfeld and Hayden were youngsters starting.
Add in 1 more first teamer, and that will be the team against Chelsea I think.

Re: West Brom vs Arsenal
What John said on the "cup team", the teams we've put out for league cup over the last 4/5 years have really been great to watch, this team was just no where near good enough. Hopefully they will start clicking more as the games come, I think a home game is perfect for the next round, big crowd of supporters with Chelsea there and a good game.
