will arsenal progress?
Arsenal v Fenerbache
CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PLAY-OFF FIRST LEG
Venue: Sukru Saracoglu Stadium Date: Weds, 21 August Kick-off: 1945 BST
Arsenal will be without midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for their Champions League trip to Fenerbahce.
The 20-year-old suffered a knee injury in the 3-1 defeat by Aston Villa on Saturday, with boss Arsene Wenger confirming the England international will be out for up to six weeks.
Defenders Bacary Sagna, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal should all be fit for the play-off first leg in Turkey.
The overall winners of the tie will enter the Champions League group stage.
Consistent Gunners
Arsenal have reached the group stage of the Champions League in each of the past 15 seasons
"We fought very hard last season to be in the top four of the Premier League and that game has a vital importance," said Frenchman Wenger.
"It is a consequence of what we tried to achieve last season and therefore, on the back of our defeat against Aston Villa, it's important as well to bounce back straight away.
"To be part of the top level - that is the most important thing for us. All the rest are the consequences of it. When you are a football player, you want to play at the top level and that's what the Champions League is about."
Fenerbahce, though, are playing in the tie under the threat of a two-year ban from European competition for match-fixing.
They were handed the ban in June, but reinstated in this season's Champions League while an appeal is heard.
That appeal will take place on 28 August, the day after the second leg against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
A decision on what would happen if Fenerbahce win the tie but lose their appeal is yet to be made.
Left-back Monreal missed the loss to Villa with a back problem, but Wenger said that the 27-year-old Spaniard came through training.
"Everybody else should make it," said Wenger. "There's a final decision (on Wednesday) but Sagna and Gibbs should be available."
well wenger we hope you know what you are doing.....
its over to you....

Re: Arsenal v Fenerbache
need a win, with sagna and gibbs travelling our back four remains the same, though we are a bit weak in the midfield (minus arteta n now ox) and wilshire and ramsey partnership still looking weak i think we can pull this off. we NEED to pull this off, a loss tday would be big psychological/emotional disaster for the players and the fans.
fingers crossed no more injuries the football gods owe us at least this much

No doubt we'll progress. We've won 8/8 playoff matches. Might not win tonight, we should though, but we'll walk it at home, turkish teams usually play poorly away.

I REALLY LIKE THE DARK SHORTS! Always thought that was classy when Utd played with them when their away kit wasn't absolutely necessary.

Re: Arsenal v Fenerbache
If the first 20 minutes is any evidence of what's to come, we should win this tie comfortably over the two legs. Some really good interchanges around the Fenerbache box on a couple of occasions.

Wow, our players are dropping out like flies right now. Everyone injured, no back ups, management clueless...
