Re: January Transfers
My (Championship Manager-related) understanding is that a release fee is the same as a minimum fee clause - essentially that if another club stumps up the cash, Newcastle would have to allow Ba to talk to the other team. Now, I'm still unconvinced that such a clause exists with Ba... we'd have to wait and see. It was reported in the Mail, after all.
Didn't we get Rosicky on the cheap due to a release fee of some kind?

Re: January Transfers
this was on sky sports news as i cannot post links yet this will have to do......
"Bosnian starlet Edin Visca claims Arsenal have expressed an interest in his services, but he is refusing to read too much into the reports.
The 21-year-old winger has spent less than six months in Turkey with Istanbul BB, but he could be on the move again during the winter transfer window.
He says Arsenal are monitoring his progress, with Arsene Wenger always on the lookout for players of considerable potential.
Visca falls into the category and he is flattered to be linked with such a prestigious club.
He would find it difficult to snub a switch to England should the opportunity arise, but for now his focus remains locked on catching the eye in Istanbul.
Proud
"I am very proud that such a big club is interested in me," Visca told KiP.
"Who wouldn't be happy about that?
"But the truth is, right now I am an Istanbul BB player and that means I cannot think too much about the Gunners.
"Until something concrete happens, I will only think about Istanbul BB as I want to play in Turkey and be as good as I can.
"But, yes, I am happy and proud that such a big club wants me."

Re: January Transfers
Yes. Demba Ba is definitely worth 10m. It only depends HOW bad his knees are - are they Ledley King bad? We don't want another player permanently in the treatment room, picking up a fat check at the end of the week and taking up a squad place. We already have one Diaby, we don't need two. But if he could prove his fitness...he'd be a great buy for 10m.

If we signed him, He'd probably get injured for the season at AFCoN

I read somewhere that he has a 13 million release clause, don't know about the credibility though.

Any truth to that Bent to Liverpool rumor? They would have one fantastically overpriced English duo if so.

At least they'd get goals out of one of them

Re: January Transfers
If Demba Ba has a release clause of 13 mil then it's an absolute bargain. He has proved that he has all the vital ingredients to be a beastly premiership striker and is currently one of the best out there. A price in the region of 10-13 million is a bargain in my opinion.

Re: January Transfers
Three names I'd like some comments on.
1) Junior Hoillett - any good? Apparently his contract expires in 6 months, and they say he's something.
2) Victor Moses - I've seen him a few times, seems a bloody handful. Worth looking at?
3) Jordan Rhodes - lots of talk. Is he Arsenal material?

Re: January Transfers
Can't really comment on Rhodes, but he's playing in league 1 at the mo right? Unlikely to be ready to step straight into the limelight of the top flight.
Hoilett and Moses are tricky on their day, but hugely inconsistent. Not of the required quality for a club like ours

Re: January Transfers
David Hoillett stands out at Blackburn, but Emile Heskey would stand out in that team. Yakubu has gone there and turned into Mario Jardel. Hard to say how he'd fair in a proper team tbh.

Any news about Aly Cissokho?, his name appeared in a couple of rumors. Would be a quality signing imo.

Also, what do you guys think of Marco Reus signing for Dortmund? Would that possibly mean that Goetze is on his way out?

I believe that Dortmund will discuss Goetze's future in the summer and might wait for Euro 2012 to finish so that Goetze's value rises. He is a few years remaining in his contract but he might stay loyal to BVB and sign a new contract and then big money is needed to get him !!

Podolski seems reluctant to move now but who knows what will happen. It's a waiting game till deadline day for everyone involved.
Robben is a good shout but he is injury prone which is the reason Bayern want to get rid off. When he is fit , he is the sort of impact player we need. If he could maintain his fitness then he would be another world class player at Arsenal. Is a bit of a cranky bitch and is known to be egoistic but with RVP being dutch he won't be alone in the dressing room

Hope that worked. Anyway, whenever I've seen the Dutch team play, they (sneijder and robben) don't like to pass to RVP. I could be wrong, things may have changed. And do we need yet another player who's constantly injured?

Re: January Transfers
Sneijder and RVP have had their differences, I don't know about Robben being involved though.
Re: January Transfers
Robben would be great. When fit he is always class if a little bit of a bitch (which footballer isnt?). However far too much of a risk with his injury record

Re: January Transfers
Hey guys,
Thought this was interesting from the journalist who broke the Arsenal bidding for Matias Suarez story. Certainly tries to justify us taking him seriously. Was surprised RVP is Matias's favorite player. Well I was going to post the article, but since I'm a new member, I can't. bollocks.

Re: January Transfers
Robben is an absolute fucking bell piece. Still, he's won titles in Holland, England, Spain and Germany. And he's still young enough to go to Italy (probably too young). That is pretty impressive.
There is a horrifying rumour linking us to Solomon 'hasn't got a' Kalou. It really wouldn't surprise me. He's out of contract in the summer and Wenger is a known admirer. Personally, I'd rather sign the retarded offspring of a goat and a spaniel but what can you do? I think it'll happen, if not now then in the summer.
