Theo Walcott Empty Theo Walcott

Post by Jonathan Prendergast Thu Jun 28, 2012 4:13 pm

Well, we heard Robin Van Persie, a few times this season, tell us how important Theo Walcott is, and how well they link up.

Watching the Euro's, I couldn't help feel that Theo provides great service to RVP in the league, and RVP wouldn't score as many goals without him. RVP didn't receive that sort of service from anyone for the Netherlands. Theo's pace get's him down the channel and ahead of the defence, so RVP can outpace defenders to get ahead for the finish. This is much harder when the central defence have had a chance to get back and ready.

So, should Wenger be willing to up his wage offer to Theo and extend his contract? Is Theo sought after by any other top clubs? is 85k per week a fair offer?

Yes, totally worth it. If we let him go we'll have an attack that is unproven in the League and with no assurances of good performances from them. Atleast with Theo we know he'll contribute to atleast 10-15 goals a season.

No matter how much you dislike Theo or get frustrated by him, he still is a very important player to our team. Is he replaceable? Yes! Is he the best winger in the world? Hell no! But losing him would be a major blow even if we end up keeping van Persie. Whilst I would happily see the likes of Djourou, Diaby, Arshavin, Almunia, Fabianski (wow we have players who contribute nothing) and co leave, losing Theo would be just like losing Song, Arteta, Wilshere, or Sagna. I'm not saying Theo is as good as those names or worse than those names, I'm just saying he is an important player in our squad. We should keep those important players and Theo is a part of those, and get rid of the dead wood which is what we seem to be doing right now.

Besides, he has an understanding with van Persie and can score 10-15 goals a season which is better than the BEST EVER PLAYER'S return of goals (talking about Bale). Theo also had his first full-ish injury free season, i can see him only getting better from here.

Based on Walcott's limited ability, I'm not sure he can score more than 10 league goals a season. That wouldn't be a problem if he were used more appropriately.

He's simply not good enough/doesn't adapt well enough/have the ability to adapt to different situation. Therefore he should be brought off the bench more often, sometimes it can be very effective.

In any case the Ox and Gervinho work much harder. Again, that is one of Theo's faults. For a young fit athlete he's hardly a marathon runner in terms of effort.

Also, no point comparing him with Bale. So tiring and pointless.

I dont think theo will settle for an impact sub role. I feel he is more ambitious. Hopefully he comes to terms and puts pen to paper though, he can be a great player on his day

Second that! I doubt he would ever make it to first team (or make any kind of carrer) if he wasn't English. It's an accomplishment to reach third with this kind of player in squad but enough is enough. Theres so many things wrong with this guy that I don't know where to start. Arsenal deserves (and has) better!!!

Now, if we could somehow persuade manc to swop Johnson for Walcott...

EDIT: http://www.tribalfootball.com/articles/chelsea-psg-chasing-arsenal-winger-walcott-3319841

Simply put... he's not 100,000 a week player. Period.

I think to be fair to Theo, he seems to have worked on his game, especially crossing and has the knack of contributing in big matches; 11 goals and 12 assists in a season are not bad stats. With van Persie on the verge of leaving, it could be a bitter blow if we lose Walcott as well.

As frustrating as Theo is, I would be disappointed to see him leave. His stats are pretty good all things considered, and his pace is a very useful weapon even with his fantastic ability to run aimlessly into defenders/into dead ends.

That said, if he thinks he has the right to hold this club to ransom he can fuck right off and enjoy playing in the Europa League with Pool

We don't want to be losing VP and Walcott in one Summer regardless of who comes in, its too much change again.

At this point,it feels like holding on to RVP and Theo will be a 'signal of intent'. I just hope we can do that - and I have a feeling that if RVP miraculously does a U-turn and signs on, Theo will do the same.

And then we're talking. Adding Podolski and Giroud to our already decent attacking line will be great. if we do actually get Afellay, then we have a proper front four, and if the M'Vila deal goes through (I feel it will), then we have an impressive front 6. That's a team that can challenge, if not for the title, then for cups at least.

Lose RVP and Theo, however, and we're back in a tough situation.

I think we should grab Affellay if the rumours are true, and play Walcott through the middle like he wants. Maybe then he'll stay.

One of the problems I had with Theo last year is that when he approached the 18 yd line with the ball, there was always a point when it looked like he could beat his man and cut into a more central position, create some danger and push on towards goal.
I would be screaming "CUT IN ,CUT IN!!".

But he wouldn't. He would steam straight ahead to the touchline , run out of room and put in a half-decent cross to RVP.

If he started in the middle we wouldn't have to worrying about him being unable to cut in- he would already be there!
....There is the "beating your man " problem too, though Wink

Why bother. If he doesn't want to play a part in Arsenal's future he can leave. We'd be better off investing time and effort in the Ox, even if he is still immature. But it's not like Walcott is particularly gifted or irreplaceable.

He's not worth the effort or wages. If he's got an inflated opinion of his ability (most probably) then he can leave.

So, it looks like Theo is holding out for either City or Chelsea to throw up some cash. I wonder if they have told Walcotts agents if they will make an offer. I doubt either club would want him, but if they say now they are interested, it unsettles the player further and puts a divide between him and Arsenal.

Theo's finishing is hardly reliable though, and just in terms of ability to make things happen he's way behind Gervinho.

An inflated opinion of himself from a young age doesn't do him any good. Needed to shut up and work harder.
