Arsenal v Bayern Munich Empty Arsenal v Bayern Munich

Post by Michael Foster Tue Feb 19, 2013 3:54 am

Tuesday 19th 18:45pm
Emirates stadium
Champions League

Well......after the utter rubbish we had come to see over the weekend with Blackburn a nice warm game against a run away German free scoring bayern is welcomed....simply put we need the win....don't let them play don't let them score and we need a good two goals to be heading back over with..no fucking about...we HAVE to win....

A war of words erupted with Wenger and the press on the eve of the game...pissed off that the press don't seam to care no notice we have a huge game tomorrow and Wenger could have done without it...but there you go....the part in question below..

Arsène Wenger erupted in fury over "wrong information" intended to "harm" in a dramatic press conference before Arsenal's Champions League match with Bayern Munich. The manager also became embroiled in an angry exchange with a journalist who asked questions about Saturday's dismal FA Cup defeat to Blackburn Rovers.

Arsenal host Bayern in the first leg of their Champions League showdown on Tuesday after crashing out of the Cup at home to the Championship club. Reports on Monday morning suggested that despite Arsenal facing what could be an eighth season without a trophy, negotiations had already started with Wenger over a new deal, with his current one set to expire in the summer of 2014.

However, Wenger, 63, went on the offensive at his pre-match press conference, looking to set the record straight. "That is the wrong information and I work for 16 years in England and I think I deserve a bit more credit than wrong information that has only one intention: to harm," he said. "If it is good information which comes from nowhere it is all right but this is wrong information that comes from nowhere and it is completely wrong."

Wenger then became involved in a heated exchange with a journalist, adding: "I look at you not because you give information, I do not know if it is you, I do not know where the information comes from. Why do you look at me? I just thought you had given this information out.

"This is a pre-match conference for the Champions League, if you want to talk about Saturday, that press conference has been made after the game. Can we get some questions about tomorrow's game, that would be very nice."

Wenger feels it is important to "take a distance" from Saturday's disappointment, where a scrappy goal from the former Arsenal trainee Colin Kazim-Richards inflicted the manager's first FA Cup defeat by lower-league opposition.

He said: "We have to analyse the game. We lost to a team who had one shot at goal, it is not like we have not touched the ball in the Blackburn game. Football is about skill, intelligence and some things as well are a bit unpredictable."

Wenger stressed his team must take no notice of the negative headlines and broken cannon motifs if they are to progress over two legs against the Bundesliga giants. "We know well what is going on here. What is important is to forget what people say and focus on our strengths," he said.

"We play for Arsenal in the last 16 of the Champions league, we have qualified for a long time. What is important is not what people say it is what happens on the pitch.

"We live in a democracy of experts and opinions, but we have to live with that and cope with that and show we have the mental strength to deal with any opinion. There are a lot of experts who are not necessarily always right."

He added: "There is a lot of superficial analysis. We have to accept we take the blame for going out [of the FA Cup] but you have to put things into perspective. You have to really analyse it, just because one guy says one thing, everybody has to go the same way."

He has to expect shit-stirring after being knocked out of a second cup competition to lower league opposition.

As for tomorrow, we will most likely bounce back with a decent performance given that this side only seems to play well when it's just been humiliated. I expect as a very minimum for us to go to their place with all to play for.

In terms of team selection, I would be tempted to pick Cazorla out wide on the left and Ramsey in the middle. Arteta, Wilshere and Cazorla in the middle three doesn't work, they all need minders. To be honest I think we would be fine without Arteta altogether to start. Maybe Podolski to come on as an impact sub, along with someone like the Ox. Vermaelen back at left-back, Koscielny and Mert to start. We don't have much choice there. Bayern are a very good side without being at the left of the two Classico clubs. We can surely do better than our shooting ourselves in the foot act at the Olympiastadion in 2005.

Agree with ya team there john..Ramsey all be it can be bit of a nightmare at times could do with his energy to help break up atacks....personally going for us to win 2-0 its what we need....go over there and hopefully steal a goal and really put bayern to it...either way I am bricking it..

Walcott------------Giroud------------Podolski

In all honesty, that's probably the team we'll see, although I do like the Ramsey idea. I wasn't very impressed with Arteta on Saturday, but that's just me. I don't want to see Gervinho anywhere near the field, but he'll probably be put on as a sub. Hopefully Ox will come on as well with some good energy. And I still want to see Ramsey make an appearance.

I expect that's the team that will roll out as well, Wenger can be really predictable in that regard. I would prefer Walcott through the middle to be honest, and Giroud dropping out. Throw Theo the keys and tell him this is it, this is the opportunity to stake his claim through the middle in a massive game, go and bag us a brace. I think him playing off the shoulder with Wilshere and Cazorla providing the through balls could be really dangerous. Wilshere needs to play in the advanced midfield slot as well, shift Cazorla wide and bring in, wait for it, Coquelin! Love his energy, think he'll respond to playing in such a big game. Although I would love to see Rosicky as well...

Actually, the more I think of it, Arteta as the deepest lying mid with Rosicky and Wilshere in front of him? Yes please.

Don't get me wrong, I will be willing and cheering our beloved club forwards tonight in the hope we can make a good show of things over the two legs, I do fear though, that we will get thumped both home and away. I hope im wrong.

I was thinking a few days ago I'd like to se Rosicky start this one somewhere in midfield. He has the winner's mentality and drive we'll need in this game. Though I also want to see Podolski, Theo, Cazorla and (in this game mainly for his help defending set pieces to be honest) Giroud. Be interesting to see the team looks tonight.

It'll be tough but if everyone is on their game tonight we can nick a decent result. Hopefully Wilshere will have the game of his life. I'd love a good result and then Wenger to just flip the bird at all the media journos in the post-match press conference, both fingers at anyone working for The Sun.

It would ludicrous to play Podolski, Theo, Cazorla and Giroud against a side with renowned attacking ability. Given the relative importance of players and what has worked in recent weeks, it seems logical to put Podolski on the bench, he can come on as an impact player.

I like Rosicky, always have, but how can he start in a game like this when he's been used so sparingly for the first six months of the season? We got him to sign a new contract yet he has barely played? Genius. Yes, he is a very god dyanmic player, a little bit like a better version of what Ramsey has offered of late, very keen to get the ball back quickly yet with better skills to drive the team forward, neither represents much of a goal threat.

The only question I have is over Diaby. For me, he simply can't start in this game. Too lumbering and too slow on the ball. If we want some height from set pieces then yes, Giroud will have to provide it.

Yeah Rosicky won't start but he is the type of player we need for this game. Without him we need Jack to provide the bite in midfield.

Podolski has to start for me. Our left back spot will likely be a weakness and having Podolski there, who is no stranger to tracking back and putting in a defensive shift to help the fullback, will be very helpful this game. Plus being ex-Bayern he will have more drive than usual to do well I'm guessing. I'd also want Giroud starting for the height from set pieces. Theo will likely start as his pace is a weapon.

I reckon the line-up Hisham said will be what we see. If Kos is out then Jenkinson probably to come in?

Quite nervous yet excited for this one. Predicting a 2-1 win to us. Cazorla and Walcott to score. Common Arsenal !
