Sunderland vs Arsenal

Post by Vanig Bostanian on Fri Feb 08, 2013 7:23 pm

A type of game that I usually see us dropping points in. An away game against a team that will defend for 90 minutes and try to get something from the game from counters, set-pieces, individual errors. That said, I can also see us getting a win. The team has enough quality to beat a Sunderland side, plus we look a lot more potent going forward now than when we met early in the season. Some players have played international friendlies so they might be a bit tired though. Jack played the whole 90 midweek and Theo played 76 minutes (and got injured).
Expected lineup:
Szczesny
Sagna Mertesacker No Clue Monreal
Arteta Jack
Theo? Santi Poldi
Giroud
If Theo is injured then the Ox on the right.
Score prediction: 2-1 to us

Assuming that none of our "tests" and "knocks" make it through id like to see

------------SCZCZ

JENKS-MERT-SAGNA-MONREAL

----ARTETA-DIABY-CAZORLA

----OX-GIROUD-PODOLSKI

Jack needs a rest, but against a Sunderland team that will do nothing all day and defend, we need Jack's ability to dribble the ball past his markers and send defense splitting passes (he's been doing that on a regular basis these days).

I think he probably will start, but i'd be happy with him on the bench for this and the Blackburn games with Bayern in mind personally.

The Bayern game is giving me headaches. The left back position especially. Vermaelen is out for the Sunderland game and might not make it, and Santos seems to be going on loan to Brazil (not that I wanted him to play anyway). who will play at left back? Coquelin? I just don't want Robben and Ribery to tear us to pieces.

I wouldn't be surprised. I heard Wenger was trying to get rid of him last month, and that Santos himself wanted a loan move back to Turkey.

Anyways, here's my XI for tomorrow:

------------------Szczesny---------------
Sagna---Mertesacker---Koscielny---Monreal
-------------------Ramsey----------------
-----Cazorla--------------------Arteta-----
Chamberlain--------Giroud----------Podolski

I'd leave Jack on the bench for this one, and only put him in if we really need a boost. Fact of the matter is, we need him fresh for Bayern. Hopefully we see a bit of Rosicky in this one. It'll be a tough game, but I feel optimistic. 2-0 to us, one for Arteta and another for Giroud.

I hate playing Sunderland, the games tend to be absolute dross and the weather isn't meant to be too good tomorrow =heavy pitch. Why am I making the 4 hour drive up there? sucker for punishment

Hopefully more than anything teams above and chasing drop points again...feeling this today...another good win on the cards...never an easy game as its been said teams just camp it up...I will take a 1-0 again quite happily...

Ahh good to be back, missed quite a bit since last week. To Sundeland we head where I imagine they'll tty to frustrate us and play for a draw again, expect a similar game to tge start of the season but with a shittier pitch and shittier weather. just hope that doesn't result in a tedious game like Aston villa a few months back.

My XI would be:
Sagna-Mert-Kos(really hope he's fit)-Nacho
Arteta- Wilshere
Cazorla
Walcott(assuming he's fit)/Ox-Giroud-Podolski

I don't like predicting games, cause it feels like I'm jinxing it but I suspect a 2-1 to us today.
COYG!

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Arteta, Wilshere, Giroud, Walcott, Ramsey, Monreal, Cazorla.
Hope it's Cazorla on the left and Ramsey in midfield not the other way around.
Arsenal subs: Diaby, Rosicky, Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jenkinson, Miquel, Mannone.

I don't know how I feel about sagna in CB, think hr's only played there like once or twice if I'm not mistaken. Hopr he's form doesn't let him down there cause cb mistakes usually cost us dearly.
