Post by Mohamed Samir Wed Nov 14, 2012 1:46 pm

How much do you think we are gonna spend? what are the realistic targets?

Personally, I would like to buy LB, DM and a striker. Sell Chamakh and Squillaci.

LB - I doubt Wenger will sign anyone in that position.

DM - Yann M'Vila is being linked to us once again...

ST - Dzeko, Llorente, and van Huntelaar, are the names I'm hearing about the most. Wouldn't mind Falcao or Cavani, either.

Also been hearing about us being interested in Wilfried Zaha and some kid from Derby County, as well as Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid and Liam Trotter from Ipswich (Damn, no need to break the bank, Arsene...). What I'm hoping is that we make a move for Christian Eriksen. Apparently, he doesn't want to sign a new contract with Ajax. And Marc Overmars is the director of football there, so maybe he can help his old club out!

Falcao, Dzeko, and Cavani would all smash our wage budget and transfer record so can't see them happening.

We need to replace what we lost in the summer at the very least (RVP & Song)

Llorente and M'vila would great additions.

Other than that Brede Hangeland and Yanga Mbiwa are both free agents in the summer and could probably be picked up on the cheap in January.

Might be too late to challenge for the league already but 3 good signings in January would ensure a top 4 finish - not to be taken lightly this year as we essentially now are at the same level as Spurs and Everton.

Need a back GK or someone to challenge Szczesny. Dream signing - Reina.

Need a first choice left-back. Can't rely on Gibbs (fitness) or Santos (quality).

Proven muscle in mid-field. We really did take one step back selling Song to Barcelona. Dream signing - Fellaini or M'vila.

Twinkle-toe'd winger. Assuming Walcott is off soon and Arshavin is out of favour need someone direct to run at defenders. Dream signing - Ribery, Belhanda, Ben Arfa.

Striker - 30 goals a season striker. Dream signings - too many and out of our price range.

We all know what we need and we also know we won't be making the signings to make the difference this January or in the summer.

What really pisses me off is that we had better players than they ones we would struggle to sign right now. Arghhh!!

Fabregas, Nasri, Song, van Persie and to a lesser extent, Clichy.

We definately need a back-up goalie to push Szczesny. Szczensy is the long-term goalie most likely so someone older and more experienced. One who is decent enough to have faith in but also willing to sit on the bench, Even someone like Thomas Soresen or even Cudicini would be an improvement on what we have.

We need a good left-back to compete with Gibbs and step in whenever he inevitably gets injured. With his injury ecord we can't rely on Gibbs as much as Wenger seems to rely on him. When fit Gibbs is very good, but he isn't fit that much. I would have loved Baines/Enrique to replace Clichy but they will be super expensive now. I've heard we're in for Luke Shaw, another Southampton prodigy, wouldn't be surprised if got him.

A proper DM would be nice. Arteta has been quality but needs someone with a bit more bite next to him. Jack can play that role well but it'd be nice to have an out-and-out DM to use too. M'Vila would be ideal if Wenger can sort his attitude out. Wouldn't be surprised if he keeps faith in Coquelin/Frimpong to step in when needed though.

If Walcott goes we may need another wide player but with Podolski, Gervinho, The Oox, Cazorla, Rosicky, Gnabry etc another central striker is more of a pressing issue. Can't see us getting Dzeko. Llorente would be quality and maybe Arteta/Cazorla could help convince him, but if it is money he wants then he'll go elsewhere. Hunterlaar is apparently available for cheap and probably more realistic.

Now I'm hearing about Luiz Adriano. But yeah, Dzeko, Falcao, and Cavani are a little impractical.

a good defensive midfielder(M'Vila) and the whole team chemistry changes all of a sudden. We don't need any player other than him in Jan imo. Will be glad if we get him.

Wenger won't get another left back unless Santos leaves.

I really want Huntelaar and M'vila.

Yeah, Jenks has got a point there. We still have a couple months before another disappointing transfer window. Hopefully, the boys are motivated enough by the fact that it's the fucking North London Derby and losing to Spurs would be nothing short of embarrassing. I want to say 2-1 to us, but who knows with this team?

^Ironic as it is, we play well after we go behind and falter when we lead(bar a few occasions). Spurs to lead 2-0, we'll come back to win 4-2. you heard it here first!

We all know we won't get anyone of note in January. Maybe we'll get someone like Eisfeld who will come good in 3 years time.

I have a feeling we will let him go back to Borussia Dortmund after his contract with us expires. Or where ever we stole him from.

We signed Nasri over the summer... 2008. I do believe he made his debut on the opening day against WBA, scoring too.

We signed Nasri in the summer. Off the top of my head I remember signing Reyes, Adebayor, and Arshavin in the January transfer window.

In addition to Reyes and Arshavin, we also signed Diaby and Walcott in the same January transfer window we signed Adebayor in.

But don't see anything along those lines happening this time around.

Walcott extends his contract or we sell him (Bayern could be interested cause Robben is always injured). Adrian (Atletico) could be an option but also Sanchez (Barca) with his injuries would fit to us.

Huntelaar would be nice but with Giroud, Podolski, Walcott, Carzorla, Gervinho we have a lot of players who score. Don't think it will work with Huntelaar cause everything will focus on him like it was with RvP. Then we'll have one with 20+ goals and the rest stands at 5. We are not so predictable these days cause everone can score.

Here we are again - just a "few signings away" from challenging for the title. But this time, a "few" might be up to 5 players.

Doubt we will be signing 5 players in the same window, so the club need to show us if they have any ambition (for the title) as early as the January window by bringing in 2-3 of the 5 needed to complete the new jigsaw.

Striker - Huntelaar, Llronte or Falcao. Or anyone good enough to be our "main striker". Chamakh out, Walcott might leave next summer too.

Play-maker / attacking mid-fielder - With Rosicky and Arshavin not contributing anything, we need to bring one class player to take their place and add serious quality to the match day squad. Ideal signing - Mario Gotze.

DM / box-to-box midfielder - once again, with Ramsey, Diaby and Coquelin combined contribution is pretty low. We need someone good enough to start or provide very stiff competition to Wilshere and Arteta. Time to sign M'vila or Capoue. Absolute dream signing - Maroune Fellaini.

Left-back - First choice left-back since we can't rely on Gibbs and Santos.

Goal-keeper - Experience back-up / competition for Szczesny, someone like Mr.Julio Cesar, who we apparently missed out on this summer. Linked with Pepe Reina too apparently.

Players out - Chamakh, Arshavin, Santos, Fabianski, Squillaci and atleast one of Ramsey, Coquelin or Diaby. Might end up losing Walcott on a free too.

Why do we (the fans) keep doing this to ourselves?

Completely agree with Meshaal. Yes, it's quite unrealistic of us to sign 5 players, we can't/won't. But if we seriously look to have a strong finish this season and a challenge for the title the next, then we have to have both depth and quality. Look at City, they'd never say "oh why should we sign Falcao when we have Dzeko, Tevez, Aguero, and Balotelli" they'd just go for it. I know we can't and don't have the financial ability to do that, but a backup striker better than Chamakh is not a lot to ask for. Or even bench Giroud and get someone better (I liked the guy from day 1, don't slate me). Any suspension/injury to any of our 3 center backs, and we'd have to play Santos again at left back. How about an injury *gulp to Arteta or Cazorla? We don't have backups with half their quality.

“Last year I did it because we lost Gervinho. It was a good connection. This year we lose Gervinho again as they are playing in the Africa Cup of Nations two years in a row.

“You know what he gives you. He gives you hope, especially when he comes on. That is the most important thing,”

“He is a communicator. An extrovert. Very intelligent. He can only give good advice to players because he was in their position when he arrived here."

Seems like Henry will be back. I'd welcome him in a heart beat simply because of who he is, but that doesn't mean I don't want someone else as well. At least two players!
