Right..here goes..

I set this thread up to do with two things I had seen apparently reported on over the weekend..

Firstly its been floating about that barca are set to use David villa as a make weight in a deal for Thomas Vermaelen...this I would see as another kick in the bollocks....barca could very well push for this as abidal's long term health problems and the fact he is not getting any younger....and TV could very well settle in to barca's game along with the you know who's

Second another one doing the rounds is Wenger is apparently being given access to the Emirates stadium funds...now firstly why would we be dipping into this money as its ment to be funding the payments for the stadium not only that where is all the profits we keep announcing???? Secondly we would be back to square one if TV goes that money will just simply be replacing rather than strengthening all be it if we were to see it happen and villa come the other way two years at most from villa and yet more would need to be spent..make no sense to me..so I will call it bull...but it does make you think...also being it coming from apparently good sources you can almost guarantee Wenger will be with us come next season,we might lose another player...and repeat coming season like the previous 7...

So over to you guys...all be it the window is far away who would you all like to see come in....all be it no euro or world cup this summer the window could be a little bit quiet....we need players we all know its not how many but the quality....

Brazil international Dani Alves has urged Jack Wilshere to become the latest Arsenal star to join Barcelona, saying: "He's a great player."

Alves has been impressed by the 21-year-old midfielder and is keen for him to join Cesc Fabregas and Alex Song in leaving the Emirates Stadium for the Catalan club.

"He is a great player who we have met playing against Arsenal and without doubt he can reach the height of the players we have here at Barcelona like Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta," said Alves, quoted in the Daily Telegraph.

"He has a lot of quality and a great personality. If I was given the chance to choose, he is a player that I would sign for Barcelona."

Has the inevitable tapping up of another Arsenal player by Barcelona slowly begun? Either way Dani Alves can do one.

What a massive giant cunt alves is! Infact that goes for the whole of fc barcelona! Watch now how the vermin such as xavi and pique start crawling out of the woodwork and start spouting shit about how good wilshere is and how they'd love him to be at barcelona! Luckily for us wilshere's got Arsenal DNA and recently signed a new contract so he's not likely to go anywhere anytime soon .

As for summer transfer window, I'd really just like for us to strengthen instead of the usual getting by by selling and replacing (with lesser quality)! We need a new 1st choice striker, a proper one who's going to get us 30+ goals a season, whether we spend big or not isn't important but our scouts and wenger needs to be completely confident that the player will deliver the goods. And ofcourse we need to seriously re-evaluate what the fuck is going on with our defence cause season after season we make the same shit mistakes despite having different players, I don't know if it's our coaching or if it's just badluck that we always have error prone defenders but something needs to be done about it.

Then ofcourse there's the ever present problem of steel in our midfield, someone who's always gonna bust a gut to protect that back four, who's gonna be in the right place at the right time always. Then also a proper 2nd choice goalie, someone who can challenge szczesny, keep him on his toes all the time. We've got alotta problems to sort out, but then again we've said the same things for 5 or 6 years running now. Something needs to be done and if Wenger's gonna see out the last year of his contract and leave, then I'd like him to go out with a bang and a open top bus parade and the end of next season.

The sad part is that, apart from his sense of loyalty to the club he grew up with, there is no reason whatsoever why Wilshere should want to stay. Thank goodness for for that Arsenal DNA or he'd probably be thinking of doing a runner already.

We need quite a few players if we're going to challenge for something. And by that I mean 4 quality players.

I would suggest that Wilshere's feelings towards Wenger are bigger than his feelings towards the club, if Wenger leaves, many players could too...

The meeting this morning suggests Wenger will not be going anywhere even if we miss out on champions league next season....

BBC report...

It is understood the club have no intention of sacking Wenger, even if they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The manager retains the unequivocal support of majority shareholder Stan Kroenke and his fellow directors.

Kroenke was at Tuesday's Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich and will also be at the board meeting in London.

Any decision over Wenger's future rests with the Frenchman himself - he is under contract until 2014 and Arsenal would be prepared to offer him a new deal if he wants to extend a reign that began in 1996.

There will be no out-of-the-ordinary show of support at the board meeting because the support is already there - Wenger and the board are united and agreed on what they are trying to achieve and what needs to be done to get there.

They recognise the shortcomings of the team and understand the concern of Arsenal supporters, but the club are adamant they are putting the structures in place to compete with Europe's biggest teams in the near future.

Arsenal are facing a battle to qualify for next season's Champions League. They sit fifth in the Premier League, four points adrift of the final qualification spot, which is currently occupied by neighbours Tottenham.

They have not won a trophy since beating Manchester United on penalties to lift the FA Cup in 2005, and hopes of silverware this season have all but disappeared.

Wenger's side were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by League Two side Bradford in December and suffered a home defeat by Blackburn in the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday.

Their chances of reaching the Champions League quarter-finals were severely dented with the 3-1 last-16 first-leg loss to Bayern.

Arsenal's move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium in 2006 restricted their spending power - and they did not anticipate the impact that cash-rich clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City would have on football's markets.

But the first instalment of a new shirt sponsorship deal will contribute to a fund of around £70m for new signings this summer.

The club will be boosted by fresh Premier League TV deals, which will give each club around an extra £30m per season from this summer.

They are expected to move on a number of fringe players to free up money for new signings, with Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci out of contract at the end of the season and Marouane Chamakh and Nicklas Bendtner also likely to leave.

Arsenal's pursuit of Barcelona striker David Villa in the January transfer window - which came to nothing because the Catalan club refused to sell - indicates they are ready to spend significantly.

The Gunners hierarchy are confident they have the resources to attract top-quality signings even if they miss out on next season's Champions League, although accept that would make the task harder.

I don't know, I feel like we're gonna be pleasantly surprised this summer. And I'm normally very pessimistic about the summer transfer window.

I want an experienced goalkeeper, a right back assuming sagna will be emplyed as a center back (that's if he is still at the club) and Jovetic/Cavani.

I would argue that the worst element of the wage structure is not that we have mediocre players sitting around waiting out contracts the like of which they couldn't earn elsewhere, it's that as a result we don't reward our best players nearly enough. If they can earn £250,000/week elsewhere in Britain and even more at Anzhi or PSG then we really had to be heading towards 150+ for a player of RvP's quality.

If we hadn't offered Sol Campbell such a fat contract twelve years ago would we have got him? Me thinks no.

The influence that rich Arsenal fans on the board had is well known. Who provides that kind of influence now? Clearly no-one. People who are willing to finance the club they love, even at a loss. Anyway as it happens, they made a huge amount of money by selling their shares, probably beyond their wildest dreams. But who would pull out the stops to sign a Bergkamp or push through a controversial transfer from a rival club now? In simple terms, you need to sign players from under other teams' noses. Not to piss them off, but because you are in direct competition with them. If you sign a player easily, you have to wonder why.

in light of the new financial report and projected earnings in the second half and since I couldn't sleep. I thought of creating a realistic better arsenal team and here's what I came up with

szcez
(J. Ceaser after QPR gets relegated)

Jenks Hangeland Kos Monreal
Sagna Verm Mert Gibbs

Wilshere/Arteta Ramsey/Capoue
Gotze/Rosicky

Walcott/Ox Cavani orJovetic/Giroud Podolski/Carzola

Hangeland = free
Cavani = 50
Gotze 35
Cesar = 7
Capoe 12
104 mil

promote eisfeld to fringes of team

Sale/gone
bendt
arshavin
djorou
squid
chamakh
denilson
fabs
mannonne
santos
gervinho
diaby
afobe (not going to make it)
frimp (as above)
close to 30 mil there

loans (possibly post carling cup)
campbell

as a back up, and on a free, yes! you are not going to get someone great to come and be our 3rd or 4th defender and with the commitments to our current 3 I don't see any of them being relegated to that role esp mert or verm. Now if Barca does really want verm them u could get a hummels for example

That's great and all, but it doesn't solve our defensive problems. Mertesacker and Vermaelen have had a season and a half to learn how to play together. Getting a new backup isn't going to fix the obvious flaw we have in getting our defenders to work together properly.

I think our defensive problems have more to do with lack of defensive coaching and lack a true DM/shield than probleems with the defenders themselves. It's a systemic problem and no one defender will fix that

That's what I'm saying. I like the idea of signing Capoue, but as you say, it's a systemic problem and Wenger needs to hire a defensive coach. It's obvious letting Vermaelen and co. coach themselves isn't working.
