Hugo Lloris Empty Hugo Lloris

Post by Jonathan Prendergast on Wed Jul 04, 2012 8:21 pm

Would we really put up with poor goalkeepers for 5 years, to finally have one (SZCZ) on the cusp of being a great keeper, then splash out 20m on Lloris? Unlikely.

It is an interesting tactic by Lyon though. President states that 'Arsenal have not yet bid'. Immediately gets Lloris in the news, and increases his sale value if Arsenal are supposedly considering him.

I know the gay contingent on here would be pretty keen for him though.

Don't need him, should use that cash for other departments.

I'm happy with Szczesny atm. Needs to work on his attitude and kicking a little, but he has bags of potential. To bring in Lloris is a stupid move, the money would be much better spent elsewhere. (M'Vila and an extra defender maybe)

SZCZ's attitude? In what respect? I would say it is one of his major strengths.

Very much agreed...you only have to look at the great keepers of the past to see an attitude is a must...

Not his attitude on the pitch, I meant the way he pokes fun at rival teams in the press from time to time, would rather he kept his mouth shut and concentrate on his football.

We need a cheeky bastard in the team. Can't afford to have dullards all the time.

I see what you are saying and noted I have always said that footballers should let the game do the talking.....but...big but,

I see it brings out the best in him..and I do say that sometimes it can have an effect on the oppisition to work hard to challange words said but also it can fundamentally fuck up a teams ability and single handedly break them...it's why you see the managers play mind games at the tail end of the season.....

...it seems it MIGHT happen, since L'Equipe (not unreliable) is reporting a fee is agreed.

Genuinely perplexing. We need a GK, but not one that will cost THAT much and is THAT high profile. Surely that money could be put to better use elsewhere?

Like I said, perplexing.

L'Equipe have gotten it wrong many times before. There's almost no way we're in for Lloris. It's probably his people trying to secure him a move.

(But they're also reporting that OL are looking for a replacement. So he's probably leaving for somewhere. http://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actualites/Lyon-cherche-un-successeur-a-lloris/296346)

Slightly surprised, but if he is going to improve the first team immediately, we could do with that - given the van Persie situation.

We have talked alot about the type of players we need to bring in this summer but now it's equally important to talk about who from the present team is going to step up big time next season.

Vermaelen, Koscielny, Sagna, Song, Arteta - can't really see beyond them.

Can't expect Wilshere to take such responsibility, given his long lay off.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is too raw.

Walcott - can't count on him and I feel he will be off too soon.

Rosicky - Not the player he was / injury concerns.

Podolski & Giroud - will take time to adjust to the league and new club.

Whenever I've seen Lloris play he has looked about as convincing in the air as Fabianski. No thanks.

I concur. I haven't seen all that much of him, and he may be a great shot stopper, but he doesn't seem commanding in his box at all. I feel like he never comes off his line - will that fly in the PL? With Arsenal? That's been a problem with a great many of our keepers, not Chesney.
