The English media has gone apeshit over this story. Some ludicrous news agency's are even trying to sell, "Chelsea will buy Guardiola out of sabbatical.

One has to wonder if there are any health issues regarding his stepping down.
Not that we may ever know, but it is curious.

Well he has said he wants to take a year out...maybe the pressure has got to him,
If that's the case then fair play to him.

What pressure? Look at Wenger and Ferguson. Scratch that.
Look at Moyes. Now that is a pressure. I believe Guardiola knows that he has won everything there's to be offered to a Spanish club manager. Time to move on. New challenge. He's 41. He wants to build up a new club soon.

Those are exceptional individuals, to stay in a job for so long and perform at that level is a lot of pressure. But it seems to have gotten to Guardiola, he's always whining about how life is much more than football and physically also he looks frail now.

The pressure he puts on himself and his team logically. A manager that intense probably doesn't want to do it for ten years on the bounce. As history shows, it's incredibly rare. Perhaps there is something about Roux, Lobanovski, Ferguson and co that makes them different. Certainly we know that Wenger hasn't had it easy in the last few years, yet the fact that he hasn't left the club doesn't mean that Guardiola's decision is hard to comprehend.
Perhaps the comparison with Arrigo Sacchi is apposite. Four very intense years of success by a manager reputed for his tactical obsessiveness.

Re: Pep Guardiola leaving Barca
Chelsea and Manchester City are rumored to have already triggered talks with Pep Guardiola, but the former Barcelona coach prefers Arsenal and his agents have already made contact with Arsenal about possible vacancy for the hot spot.
But sadly Arsenal management still prefers Wenger who is the most successful manager in the club’s history. Even though Arsenal are struggling for past seven seasons to get a trophy, Wenger still manages to get them into champions league every year. Considering the limited funds he gets and with Arsenal’s wage cap, he has done a tremendous job. Imagine if Wenger was given 100 million transfer kitty? So it looks like Guardiola’s wish of managing Arsenal would not be granted.
Sources believe Guardiola will look in to other options if his Arsenal dream fails and also he prefers a job in London (Chelsea).
Meanwhile former Barca defender Rafael Marquez commented,
‘Guardiola will soon return to the game. I think he’ll go to England. He’d be perfect for Arsenal,’

I'm not too sure about Pep managing Arsenal. Maybe I'm a bit sentimental about this but for now, I can never imagine an Arsenal without Arsene Wenger.

Re: Pep Guardiola leaving Barca
A really tough choice.
If this was Wengers last season, he has left us in great shape. New stadium, money in the bank, a great spine in their prime (SCZC, Kos, TV, Per, Jack, Cazorla, Podolski), great young players coming through.
We may not get another chance to attract such a suitable successor.

Can he build a team from scratch? Can he install the Barca mentality in Arsenal players? Will he leave after just 4 seasons? If the answers are "yes", "yes", and "no" then I think we should consider him.

Re: Pep Guardiola leaving Barca
I don't think that it would be about replicating Barcelona at Arsenal.
As much as he was the boss at Barca, he was also part of the system.
I think him leaving after 4 years was as much as getting a break from Barcelona and broadening his horizons, as much as it was moving on because he had already succeeded there. So it does not necessarily mean he would move on from Arsenal after 4 years.
On the other hand, I doubt the longevity of Ferguson or Wenger will be repeated for a while.

Do Bayern need Guardiola? Looks like he's inheriting a monster team.

I was wondering what the current manager has done wrong to be replaced. Secured the title in April and demolished Barca.

exactly, especially if bayern win the cl this year, besides being pointless, it would be unfair to Heynckes who has been brilliant and doesn't necessarily want to leave the job either..

Heynckes is retiring that's why he's being replaced, though recently I've heard he's might stated he might reconsider a new challenge in a different league.

It had been widely expected that he would retire at the end of the season but he hadn't announced it as such. They effectively retired him by announcing Guardiola's arrival.
The truth is that they've been a team on the up since they got rid of Klinsmann. Van Gaal was good but flawed, Heynckes was better and I guess they hope that Guardiola the super coach will make them even better. I think the point is that their strength is the team, not necessarily the coach. More credit has been given to the club as an organisation than the manager as an individual leader. They've got all their famous ex-players running the show from behind the scenes.
I think they also owe Dortmund a debt of gratitude in a way. Bayern were shown up for a couple of years by Dortmund, forcing them to raise their game and become just as efficient and lethal a team as Dortmund were. It's such a refreshing change to see as the financial dominance of a few clubs has made European football less than exhilarating for a few years, the last couple of nights' football has been mad.

Was anyone else really proud after watching Barcelona getting whooped by Bayern at the Allianz Arena? I was thinking to myself how good can be when we're focused.
