Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
One thing with Essien, why would they loan him to us unless a) they dont think he will help us (challenge with them for third/the title) or b) they are confident he is no where near as good as he was in the past?

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
They did the same with Benayoun, who despite not being spectacular, was very helpful to us. Wouldn't mind if Essien was as helpful to us as Banyoun was. P.S. right now I'd take Benayoun back to play in similar capacity as he did last year.

Will there ever be a summer when us Arsenal fans aren't left clutching straws on deadline day in hope of some new signings.

Reports that Villa and Fulham accepted a 7m fee for Dempsey, but the player doesn't want to move to Villa. I would take him at 7m.

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
I did *sigh* myself when Wenger actually said if nothing tomorrow then it will be December in his press conference, December will be too late, unless its Henry on loan ofcourse...

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
Hardly surprising. Arsenal always find a way to disappoint. We make 3 really great early signings and yet the club still manage to mess up the good vibes in the end.

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
I wouldn't go that far Alex!
I think its equally important to move on some of the players earning decent wages who wont play.
This has still been a good summer and we look better than 12 months ago.

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
I'm getting more and more depressed with every second passing. I know what happened last year and that we could get what we want but now is the first time in this transfer window I actually think we won't sign anyone..

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
I'm not actually that upset at the prospect of signing no one. I think it's because my standards for this club have finally dropped that I have accepted we are fighting for fourth and not first. I think the major issue, and it is one we have every year, is that we are yet again two quality signings short of having a real shot

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
So if we sign Biglia I should be happy just because we signed someone for the sake of it?

Hahaha...I completly agree....what's the point of following anything if optimism won't apply,
Well unlike most jenks I think we could sign,if we are letting players go all be it crap ones who still played some part then we need players in..and also quietly is usualy wengers way....
He knows he needs players in...just prob won't want anyone ie spuds and co hijacking our deals...

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
Too lazy, I like the rumours about Oriel Romeu though, Wenger type player still young not seen as a massive success yet but, for me, looked tidy at the beginning of last season. Ofcourse he is ex Barca so we all know what would happen.....

Summary
To add the experience, leadership, winning mentality and cover:
Podolski
Nigel De Jong or similar
Adam Federici or similar
To add quality:
1 of:
Hazard
Goetze
or similar
Here was my summary at the start of this thread.
We got Podolski as looked likely at the time.
We got Cazorla, who I would say is Hazard/Goetze level quality.
We lost RVP and got Giroud
Haven't signed an experienced holding mid or a decent back up keeper.
7.5 out of 10 so far.

As for the holding midfielder who is even possible, if you want experience...Essien? Tiote? Is he experienced enough? Flamini? lol

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
Don't see us signing anyone, at all. Love to be proved wrong but just don't see it happening.
In non Arse news, it would be a real coup if Spurs sign Moutinho..

Re: 2012 Summer Transfers
I had suggested De Jong, who has just signed for AC Milan.
My thought was someone who can add experience to the central midfield, but not be around too long to stunt Le Coq and Frimpong's process.
As it stands, it looks like Arteta has moved there, and Diaby will keep Arteta's old spot warm until Jack, Rosicky and Le Coq are back.
