I suspect it was a bit of rotation by Wenger to leave Kos out. He has played a lot of games, and it is crucial he doesn't get injured.

Additionally, we need Djourou to get his form and confidence back. In case we need him in a big game.

Off Twitter:
Arteta with suspected broken ankle just speculation but could also be true.

could be a damaged ligament or a fracture or both. I doubt we'll see him again this season.

Good time for Diaby to come in and prove his worth to the team.

As I am recovering from ACL surgery myself, I often wince by some of the positions players get themselves in. Running at the goal line down the wing, then twisting your body to cross into the middle, puts an incredible amount of stress on your knee and ankle joints. When I saw him go to cross at such high pace, it looked very awkward. I immediately thought it may be a knee injury. But I can see how he may have torn an ankle ligament.

Injuries - Page 2 Empty Re: Injuries

Post by Mike York on Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:50 pm

The last time Abou Diaby played 90 minutes for Arsenal was over 12 months ago, in the 3-1 win over Blackpool. This season injuries have restricted the midfielder to a little under 90 minutes of total playing time, but despite this both Arsene Wenger and Thomas Vermaelen hope the Frenchman can play a part in Arsenal’s final three games.

With a physical game coming up this weekend against Stoke, and with their penchant for chucking it and hoofing it long at every opportunity, Diaby’s height might be important, something Vermaelen is concious of.

“He can be really valuable for us I think”, he said. “Mikel Arteta is injured now but Abou brings some physical presence in midfield as well. He is a good player for us so I am happy he is back.

“It is good for him that he is now back and has put a difficult period behind him.”

While Arsene Wenger, clearly a huge fan of Diaby’s talent, said, “I hope Diaby can play a significant role. I am a bit cautious because he just played 25 minutes but in the last three games I hope he can help us, yes.”

Our midfield options do increase with the return of Yossi Benayoun who was ineligible for the Chelsea game, and Francis Coquelin likely to be available again, but with Wilshere and Arteta out any additional bodies in the mix can only aid the cause.

Especially against the horrendous drooling Orcs of Stoke.

Looks like Diaby may be filling in for Arteta over Ramsey for the last few games.

I think Rambo just needs a bit of time to get back to himself (if you know what I mean)
Just hang up the towel for this season...have a good rest and start to reset his ambitions and mental strenght ready for the pre season..find some form and work his way back in....

I don't think Diaby will come in for Ramsey "for the last three games''. I think there is an advantage of playing him against Stoke as already mentioned in Vermaelen's qoutes but Ramsey was decent against Chelsea, despite the hate.

I think Ramsey playing the Arteta role for a few games will be good for him. Less pressure to create something. As long as he performs his defensive and passing circulation roles, he will have done his job.
